Speights Ale House | Ashburton the best kids platter I have ever seen with no sweets or junk food on it....the boys loved your whole outdoor area collecting walnuts, throwing leaves playing in the house and plenty of room to safely run around.....would definitely go again and recommend you to other parents looking for a catch up with kids

Arrived unannounced this evening with 2 kids in tow. A table was quickly reset for us and the kids were given some colouring in. Perfect. Also I love how you have chosen twistable crayons because the boys were able to continue colouring instead of running coloured pencils down or breaking parts of the crayons as often happens. Anyway onto the service and food... The drinks we ordered arrived promptly and correctly, as did everything we ordered. The kids snack platters were good sized and good to see a variety of fruit on offer also. They made wee sandwiches with the cold meat and cheese and beautiful bread. The half loaf was a very tasty entree as was the chefs special main of potato skins with guacomole and salsa which we opted to have as an extra sharing entree! Simply devine!! And we commented that it should be on the regular menu it was very delicious. My partner had the Large Ribs and they were the most tender they have ever been from here. They simply fell off the bone so no wastage! I had the Lamb Salad which was so scrumptious I could have eaten a repeat helping. To finish off I chose the daily cheesecake which happened to be one of my favs, Passionfruit and White Chocolate.. mmm mmm I was not disappointed. The crumble that my partner ordered was also extremely tasty. The kids had their iceblocks and were very content. The service was outstanding.. Just the right amount of checking in on us during our meal and to ask if we required anything else. Keep it up Speights! We will be back :) The personal service from the young girl who was dealing with our table was very professional and friendly without being over the top. Very happy diners.
Came here on a Monday. Nice and quiet. The atmosphere was extra chill and the staff were super friendly. Wendy was a gem and an absolute delight to talk to. The brews were well priced at $9 and the food was delicious. Definitely worth stopping in if you want To relax and enjoy a tasty beverage.
We were there on Boxing Day (the worst day to judge any place).
But service was good, staff friendly, and food was good. Be prepared for a large meal.
This isn't the kind of place we have been to before, but will definitely try again.

Was a good experience overall. Same as we always get from the Ashburton restaurant.
We hadn't booked, but a table was available.
Our two kids (6 and 2) were with us, so we thought their meals would come out fairly quickly. We approached the wait staff who checked and came back to say all our meals were nearly ready, so everything came out at the same time. Not ideal but it didn't ruin the night.
Would happily eat there again.
Total stranger made to feel instantly welcome. Food order taken very quickly and it arrived just as quick. Coffee good, service abundant. Thanks everyone at the Ashburton Speights Alehouse you did yourselves proud.
Good service, reasonable good food for bar standard. But they have really good chips.

This is a nice Speight's Ale House. The place had a good atmosphere and some welcoming staff. It is a great place to have a family event and the meals, well no complaints.

Always a lovely visit here to the Speights Ale House, Ashburton. I have been here more times than I can count. The staff have always been lovely, the food is always beautiful, I genuinely love coming here. I chose this venue for my birthday dinner recently for a group of roughly 20 people, and none of us were disappointed. A massive thank you to Wendy, very welcoming and I love interacting with you when I’m in.

Pasta was a little too salty for my friend but was to be expected with a bacon and Parmesan pasta
