This place is STUNNING. So good in fact we returned twice within two weeks, can't recommend this place enough. Kind staff, unbelievably fresh food that is crafted by a master chef. His skill is comparable to our experiences we had at restaurants in Japan. Make a booking immediately!

Taiko Japanese Restaurant - Kingsland “Irasshaimase” is the first thing you hear as you walk in Taiko Japanese Restaurant & Bar. It’s a common greeting in Japan which simply translates to ‘Welcome to the store’. The interior of the restaurant had a dominant wooden structure, which was nice change from the competitive eccentricity that most restaurants seem to adhere to.
We ordered the large sashimi selection, scallop sashimi and tako octopus wasabi.
The sashimi selection consisted of salmon, tuna , prawn, Japanese roe , kingfish sashimi with little salads and soy sauce of course. This was served on some bamboo leaves, I felt very in touch with nature at this point , felt like I was at a dinner with the tropical mermaids. The food was fresh, the salmon were cut in fat chunks perfect for the hungry me. You know the salmon is good when it’s creamy and melts in your mouth. So good.
The Tako octopus wasabi is always my must have in any Japanese restaurant. It is raw octopus marinated in wasabi sauce. This delicacy is a must try at least once. The texture is more crunchy and chewy but the flavour consist of salty goodness with a little bit of a spicy kicks.
The scallop sashimi was simply fresh and delicious, it was my first time trying it actually and definitely won’t be the last. It was wrapped up in a thin gold leaf and tightened with a toothpick which was pretty freaking adorable.
Now let’s not forget that this is all served with a delicious and warm miso soup. Overall I had a pretty great experience at Taiko, the food was fresh, the service was good. I would definitely be coming back here. But keep in mind that most sashimi places including Taiko take a small hit on your wallet but it’s definitely worth it as a treat. Although I must say I was still hungry afterwards and topped up with some count down snacks. This is only because seafood is generally a very light meal. How do you think that Japanese people are so fit and live so long? Sayōnara, until next time folks.

The unagi was delicious! A good portion too. The wagyu lunch set was just okay, a little tough. Sashimi tower didn't actually have much sashimi for the price, but the few pieces that were there tasted fresh. The yum yum prawns came on a preheated plate, not on an actively sizzling plate with a flame underneath like in the photo so the yum yum sauce didn't have that delicious grilled flavour - I expected the top to be torched, but unfortunately it wasn't. Overall it was okay! For the price I would try somewhere else. Apparently the other branch is better though?

one of the best sake bar, dishes are delicious, slight cheaper than Masu/Azabu/Cocoro but foods quality can match those big boyz. only downside is parking is a bit difficult to find Note: cost $189 for photos attached

One of fantastic Japanese restaurants in Auckland. You can taste authentic Japanese food here cooked by Japanese chefs. Loved eating lunch specials including sashimi, tempura, karaage & chicken Katsu. They were all nice & tasty Staff were friendly as well. Loved to go back there.

Fresh, fast and delicious authentic Japanese food. I took my Japanese homestay there who agreed it was true to culture Japanese food. Super convenient to the Kingsland trainstation. A little pricey but for the quality of the food it is worth it.

Takio is a great Japanese restaurant in Kingsland! The atmosphere is cozy while able to cater for larger groups. My table ordered the Katsu Chicken, Salmon and Avocado Sushi, Takoyaki and Sizzling Yum Yum prawns. All were excellent. The presentation of the food and portion sizes is incredible. I would highly recommend it.

We ended up here spontaneously. It was raining and we were looking for a dinner place in Kingsland. We were lucky to get a table for 3. The wait staff were friendly and welcoming. We clearly ordered too much (he warned us) but we were ready for the challenge 😜 Spicy garlic Edamame, veg tempura, tofu sizzler, hotpot, salmon sashimi and hot sake. Portion sizes were bigger than we expected. Food was yum and we really had a great time! I take terrible photos so the one I posted doesn't do it justice, also it's not all the dishes.

If you want fresh Sashimi, beautifully fried Tempura and great Japanese food, this is the place to go. Have been a favourite for many years. Price is reasonable too and great staff who all spoke Japanese.
