Delicious food at a great price served by absolutely amazing and friendly staff. Perfect place for meals.
My favourite place for lunch in Auckland. Excellent value, great food, the friendliest service in the city, very convenient location and the curry bread deserves medals. You get worse food served by rude staff and pay triple what you pay here for much less of an experience.
One time I ordered my food and sat down outside, it was brought over to me by the chef and as he placed down the dish he said "thank you for this time, and every time". What a guy. Everyone I bring here loves it immediately.
Delicious and affordable - perfect for students on a budget! I got a large beef curry for $7.50 and their drinks were $2.

Super chill place and the food is amazing, massive portion sizes for the price, and a large is only 0.50c more than a regular. Cool little student deals too and being so close to UOA it’s a great idea to come here.

Have come to this place for several years and the pricing is still amazing. The food is delicious and the pricing is just incompatible to any competitor(extremely cheap food). The staff is always very polite at any time of the day, there’s relaxing music and also manga to read.
I used to travel several times a year between Taipei and Tokyo, this one reminds me of the good old days.
Very authentic Japanese family style curry on the rice.
Japanese pickle is delicious.
Japanese curry is very mild with heaps of vegetables and fruits as the based ingredients.
Even kids love to eat Japanese curry.
Good on the rice also good to cook with noodles.
Most impressive is this restaurant is so cheap, $7 you get yourself a yummy Japanese curry rice bowl which you can't find anywhere else in Auckland.
Great tasting Japanese curry with reasonable price tags. Please bear in mind that adding lots of toppings can dramatically increase the price; and they do have plethora of great toppings: cheese, croquettes, crab sticks, steamed vegetables to name a few. The service is really fast, but a lot of customers especially during lunch time; hence, their tables are often fully occupied. Parking is a pain, so walking is definitely the best option. They also have other options such as bento, sashimi, and donburi, which are more pricey compared to their curry dishes. If you like sweeter curry their You Curry will be your best choice.
Definitely was a very tasty and filling meal.
If you are going skint on your budget this is a very tasty place for a nice tasty meal and also fair priced one!
Note if you want the Japanese chicken katsu curry you may need to come in lunch time as they ran out by dinner time. I had the Japanese mild curry which was tasty and good portion perhaps more vegetables were missing into the curry. Good place I would have visited again if I had the time. You can also have food to take away.
TL;DR: Highly recommended! Not so pricey and yet their foods are super good and definitely satiates. I highly recommend the Salmon Katsus and Teriyaki Burger.
This is a super overdue review as we've been enjoying JDY for almost a year now.
I'm eating this Teriyaki Burger as I'm writing this review. This really triggered me to finally make this review as it's just too damn good! Normally, we'd only order rice meals, and my favorites are the Salmons, and my partner loves the katsus, esp the pork one. They're really bang of the buck, tastes great, super filling and not too expensive.
Most of the time I'd avoid the burger because I am not aware of good Japanese burgers. This time, I finally tried it. I'm glad I felt a bit adventurous today. The patty is thicc and juicy, one of the best burgers I've had here in NZ, literally! The bun seems very simple, but I super like it as well.
The staff (owner?) are very nice and friendly as well. Highly recommended!
One of the best place still exists in Auckland
Used to go there like every day when I was Uni student and it was when they back in Queen Street and $5 but ever since when they move to new place and I graduated I never visit this place anymore
But today I got my chance to visit this place again !

1) the price is amazing cheap! Used to be $5 now is $7 but hey this is still a lot cheaper then other places! (I order some other sides, so it’s around $12 or $14)
2) it’s super delicious
3) still taste the same! It’s just how I remember it.. after so many year the taste is still the same and good!
I recommend this place go have a quick lunch or take away!!
God I just wish they can open another restaurant in East Auckland ... I’m sick of Chinatown food in East Tāmaki area
