Whatever comes before goes before Bilbo has the best chips I ever tasted and the snapper tasted great very friendly recommended by a friend second time back great food...
Always came through with the late night greasy fix whether it be pork wontons or some classic chips. Unfortunate that they close way earlier now but those memories are irreplaceable.
This takeways can be really good at times. But there have been afew times I have visited and the chips have been really undercooked. Still happy to go back as they are really friendly
Good food, friendly staff , good price ;) I had fun times with their game machine and I won :)each time i visit them I saw staff wear gloves and hat ,I did not saw something like that in most other takeaway shops which impressed me
The burgers in this place are better if you compare it with MC Donald's. They used to be open late before but now they close at 12.
My fav food here would be the egg burger and the sandwiches. The kiwi sandwich is 10 dollars but they have big portion. The fish burger and the fish and chips is good too
I don't like any of the Chinese food that's served here may be because of the spices they use to cook with.
Freaking love this place , best place to get your late night cravings. The food taste great especially the chips, the people are very nice and they work fast as well. Definitely would recommend !

Potato fritters are good, wantons are great, chicken burger is awesome, and fried rice has the most meat ever in their combination meats

Bilbo's fills an essential niche in the Mt Eden/Balmoral area in an astute fashion.
The restaurant takes the traditional format of a neighbourhood Chinese-European takeaways and moves it towards its most natural place in a modern city: namely as a near-nocturnal den to sate the hunger of those returning from a night out (as well as those poor souls who work the night shift).
This is not to say, however, that the food at Bilbo's can only be enjoyed in a spirited mood. Soberly judged, their burgers in particular are excellent. They are made with large, well-toasted buns and substantial, good quality fillings. Newbies should be aware too that the cooks will make burgers in practically any combination of ingredients, which is handy for a vegetarian.
Prices are uniformly reasonable, and the cooks are charmingly generous: for instance, ordering two potato fritters has always gotten me three. The cooks are swift, too: you can play Rocky and Bullwinkle pinball while you wait, but it will likely be a short game before your order arrives.
The long and short of it though, is that by 2 A.M., BIlbo's is the only place of its kind open for miles, and that is something to be truly appreciated.
Delightful owner who always has a smile on her face and provides amazing service. Great for a quick takeaway with heaps of options. Very good value on all of the food I’ve ever had. Excellent chips and crumbed fish. Also recommend the cheeseburger, much better than most regular fish and chips shops and seems like the beef is hand patted. Has been consistently great!
Very friendly lady who was happy to receive my business. She explained the menu to me and there were a lot of meal offers on the walls. I noted they have an A rating which is current so that's good. The servings of chips were huge. The fish was nice and service fast. Their hours are Monday 5:30pm - 12 am and Tuesday to Sunday 12pm - 12am.
Opens early for a fish and chip place. Good service she's only working by herself and also great quantity. Would recommend if ur looking for a quick feed
The only nearby place we could find who was happy to deep fry our freshly caught fish at 9pm on a Monday :) very friendly staff. Fish was nicely fried and seasoned and the chips were perfectly cooked and crunchy on the outside.
Super friendly staff. The potatoesfor the chips were nice and fresh tasting. We also got the crumbed hoki which was well cooked.
