Review The Caffeine Laboratory - Christchurch

Beautiful cafe in Regent Street, one of the characteristic areas of Christchurch. Tasty coffee and food, maybe a bit pricey but definitely worth it. The place has two levels, first one tiny and cozy, couldn't get the chance to see the one upstairs. They have many outside tables too. Nice and efficient staff! Definitely you have to try it!

Popped in for a quick breakfast before leaving Christchurch and was pleasantly surprised. Great coffee and very well made food. Salmon eggs Benedict was on point. Thanks TCL, easy 5-stars! 👌🏼

Really nice and friendly staff, and cozy cafe in the corner of the prettiest city in Christchurch <3 But it's not just about the vibe itself but also about their great coffee and their AMAZING mushroom burger. Man! That burger knows how to make you happy, and Caffeine Laboratory definitely knows how to do it too. Absolutely recommended by @PigLifeDiary :)

A nice stroll today to New Regent St. A vibrant cafe with Paisley tiles on the outside and an eclectic brewing bike from Cassels & sons against the pastel array of Spanish architectural buildings. One of the neatest places to have a cup of Coffee in Christchurch.

Love the hot chocolate here! Well located place and nice smoked salmon, but the poached eggs were dry, good food anyway.

The strongest tasted coffee I've had in Christchurch, to keep up with the name of this place, they don't have decaffeinated stuff FYI. Easy ordering, fast with take away, alterations with drinks, friendly staff. The indoor area of the cafe is small, with limited cabinet food, but there are a few more tables for outdoor seatings. Great place to enjoy some antique atmosphere surrounded by heritages while having a decent dose of coffee.

Amazing coffee and good food. Fast service. There is a outdoor seating and an upstairs dining area also. Popular for takeaway coffees. Also have juice and smoothies. Just outside the scenic New regent Street so ideal for a wander around there after your coffee or meal.

One of my favourite cafes in Christchurch, outstanding food and the best fried chicken burgers I've ever had. I recommend this place to everyone who asks about a cafe in Christchurch. It has awesome staff and also a great atmosphere which is why I always choose to come back here!

Great food, great coffee and a broad menu - located in a stunning spot on the end of New Regent St. Also the toastie was pretty damn good too...just a shame the plastic trays weren't suitable and we ended up with sauce all over the table.

I really food was alright The presentation was nice, but it tasted just ok. The fresh pressed juices were amazing though! Definitely try those. Staff were nice, but seemed a little rushed and stressed.

Great coffee, amazing food. It's the wonderful staff though that really make it. They remembered me after just on visit, my coffee and that I preferred to sit outside. Certainly made my morning routine very pleasurable for a short stay.

Easy access, not a wide range but what there was , was good. Coffee was delightful . Interesting plates. Generous portions, well served , unique styles. Slightly pricey . Seating inside and out

Cozy cafe with friendly staffs! Their blueberry scone is interestingly tasty. I cannot describe the taste. You just need to try it! and you will see.

A great spot for brunch. Had the most delicious lamb eggs benedict and a great coffee. Service was friendly, and consistent. Be prepared for a bit of a wait first thing as they are very popular - worth it though!

We got to enjoy great tasting coffee that was made with love and care. Breakfast was also a delicious surprise with pulled lamb shoulder benedict NZ style. A lovely start to our Christchurch visit

Such good coffee. Unfortunately I had a wee uh on moment while supervising my daughter and spilled my coffee. Even though it was my fault the guys offered to make me another one free of charge without me asking. Great service

Great place, the staff were excellent and the service was quick. To top it off the food that we had was delicious!

Enjoyed my brunch and coffee very much, my eggs benny was great. Other breakfast dishes coming out of the kitchen looked delicious too. Was hard to decide what to have. Everything sounded good!

This is an awesome cafe located on the corner of New Regent St. The cafe has a really nice vibe with ample seating inside and outside. I came here for brunch and ordered the mushrooms on brioche with poached eggs and a coffee. The eggs were perfectly poached and matched perfectly with the mushrooms. I would definitely come back here again.

Coffee was great and service was efficient but the place had a scent of old spilled milk to it this morning. I’m glad I got takeaway. Will return to confirm if one off.

I really was underwhelmed by the place. It is cold, and the service is colder. Like they are just too good to be serving me and I was such a bother because I don’t know what I want that second.
Granted the food and the coffee was quite good but nah... won’t be back.

Waited 20 minutes for the tiniest smoothie I ever seen and it was quite warm too, I also ordered eggs bene with salmon and for my surprise I got it with bacon, after 30 minutes waiting, so I just ate that since I was waiting for so long. I do not recommend the place and wouldn’t come back, 28$ wasted on a breakfast that wasn’t what I ordered. I would give 0 starts if that was possible.
When I complained at their Facebook page I got a very rude answer, I’m posting the screenshot of that and also the photo of the smoothie, if you want to have a nice costumer service do not go there

Had a lovely brunch here with great food and coffee. We ordered the Egg Benedict and the Crepes. Service was great and location is awesome for a good banter.

Cool little spot for brunch. Food is great, service is good, and convenient corner location makes this a cool place to drop by. Nice neighbourhood.

First class scrambled eggs. Coffee, strong and hot. Job done and done well. Had omelette here a while back and equally good. Love a place that does simple things well

Stopped by for hot chocolate before walking through town in the morning. The place was quite small but did have a few tables. The cups were quite buzzy. Hot choc was alright.

It has really great costumer service, the two men working there were very lovely and kind. The coffee I had was very nice however the chocolate milkshake was rather questionable. The crepes were a bit too sweet but great if you're a sweet tooth, the bacon was a bit over cooked, the raspberry brownie was amazing and the presentation of the food was fantastic! Overall, great costumer service, fabulous coffee and presentation of the food but the food itself was average and pricey apart from the raspberry chocolate brownie which was yum!

Nice little cafe on the corner. Delicious breakfast and portions. Nice espresso coffee. Fast service. Its not over priced as well. We enjoyed our breaky.

We walk past the cafe quite a few times in Christchurch and the place was always jam packed with people, we knew we had to give it a go some time before we leave.

It was a chic little place with simple wooden decors and furnishings. The staff were friendly and extremely welcoming.

We went in early on a Saturday morning and unfortunately due to 2 staff down they couldn't serve breakfast til later on. We were in a hurry so we ordered their coffee and had to leave empty handed and a little disappointed.

Later on that day, I decided to give it another go, this time I had better luck and managed to find a cozy spot for one. I ordered their omelette with potatoes and kumaras, and a salad. It came boiling hot in a small cast iron. I burnt my mouth trying to stuff it all in my mouth, but that was my own fault. It was absolutely delicious, the brown bits cooked at the bottom was so tasty and the potatoes and kumaras were soft and just so hearty. The salad with dressing and blobs of cream cheese was a rich and creamy. I had no trouble finishing it all off.

Before I go I ordered their lemon meringue tart for my partner. I never got to taste it but it looked so cute and I just couldn't resist. My partner enjoyed it a lot and I would love to try it next time too.

We would love to come back again next time as the other items on their menu also looked amazing and it definitely deserves a higher rating than its current one.

Cute little place in lovely New Regent Street, The Caffeine Laboratory does very good coffee as well as a few decent dishes, much of which goes down a treat with a cup of Java.

Few tables situated outside which are lovely to sit outside at weather-permitting (which it often isn't in Christchurch!).

Decent place for a coffee and a quick eat. Modern fit out, clean and comfortable. Does not do table service.

I can't think of a better coffee joint to inhabit adorable New Regent Street than the Caffeine Laboratory. This is a great, small cafe that specializes in all things coffee, but also pumps out some pretty amazing cafe dishes as well. I'm pointing at you, Bacon and Egg Brioche. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to pair with my flat white because their menu items sound just as appetizing as their case items look. The menu is small, which helps you make the decision quickly, but I can promise that no matter what you order, you won't be disappointed. Seating is limited so I wouldn't bring a group of friends (5 tables) but it's great for a coffee date or for takeaway.
