Nice place with great atmosphere for couple pints with mates and watching some games, the food is just average. The stone grill sounds fun, and it is fun experience wise, but can’t say it helps with the taste of the meats.

A brilliant place for a good pint and a better than average pub meal. I had the venison which was superb and a colleague had the rib eye which was apparently pretty awesome too! Attentive staff kept the glasses filled which was also appreciated and made for a great night!

Great service and friendly staff! The place was a bit busy so the food was a little slow to come out but the staff were great at letting us know of delays. The burgers are very generous servings and would highly recommend the pulled pork.

Excellent restaurant for a family meal. Customer service was great and there's a kids' menu. They were also able to accommodate for our dietary requirement (gluten and egg free) and the size of the meals were generous. Good value for money and they are also listed in the Entertainment Book.

As a party of 6 we arrived with out a booking 9/9 / 2023 after leaving another establishment being unhappy with the menu choice . We were warmly greeted and accommodated , drinks order came quickly then food order came super quick. Burgers steak pasta and kids food were all great . Thank you to front of house and kitchen staff . Happy buzzing venue.

I overestimate how hungry I was 🙃😂 literally ate half of pork ribs and 1 taco and I was in a food comer. The food great the pulled beef taco is great! Very succulent and refreshing. I had the pork taco take away with the fries for my lunch. The service was great lovely guy always coming back and checking up on us to see if we needed anything. The wait was average, not too long. The prices are $$ but its definitely worth it. The set up is really nice too good music and a casual environment to be in. I will definitely ne coming back some time this week and I high recommended this place! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Decent quality of food for the price you pay, my partner and I got the eggs Benedict and the fish and chips for brunch. The portion sizes were quite small which was disappointing because the food was good. I was a tad let down that the Benedict came out on small English muffins, would have been really good on some ciabatta!!

Dropped in here for a couple of beers on the way to a restaurant with a group of work colleagues. The Fox & Ferret is a new pub down up to look like an English one and it misses the mark - too big, London road signs and commonwealth flags, wood work done up to look old etc. The beer selection was average as was the service. We won't be back

High marks for food, low marks for environs. There's only one area a wheelchair user can sit in, either of two skinny tables in the bar section. It's pretty much right under the speakers blaring pop music that the staff claim not to be allowed to turn down (apparently "ambience" requires that I have to shout at my lunch companions). Had we not arranged to meet someone there, we'd have left over this. Friend's lunch portion of fish and chips was cheap ($13) and went down well. Nice to get both white sauce and tomato sauce as standard. I had the Stonegrill sirloin, which along with its sides was fantastic. Asked to substitute the standard red wine jus for the blue cheese sauce they offer as an option on the steaks, and it was fantastic. Loved the mushrooms, too. The ice cream selection sounded weird (something about white chocolate and raspberry and ginger) but tasted great. One of the better desserts I've had lately. Menu differed slightly from the one on Zomato (no venison!), but the gist was the same.

An old favourite from our days as students in Christchurch. Last dined here any New Years Day and the restaurant part was surprisingly full. The food took awhile to come once we ordered but there were a couple of large tables who ordered before us. The food was good and the portions were generous, just as we remembered.

Very good food! My one complaint is that it's an example of those kinds of restaurants where you pay more for less. Fancier food for a steeper price. If you don't mind a bit more money for a nicer night out, this is the place for you

Free Trade Winds

We ordered two platters - BBQ board and Seafood. Both had major issues. The Seafood differed markedly from what was on the menu and no mention was made to us of this. The grilled prawn skewer, filo prawns and tempura prawns were all absent. The prawn twisters and fish fingers that substituted were forgettable. The salt and pepper squid was actually battered and deep fried. The market fish and hot smoked salmon were basic but nicely done. Some communication as to the current state of the menu is so obvious that I almost shudder to point it out. Beyond this, the hummus that accompanies is weirdly misplaced. It just doesn't work with seafood. The BBQ board was heavy with ribs - they were excellent! Everything else was lacking by comparison. The chicken had no flavouring - why not even a BBQ marinade?! The sausage too had nothing that referenced BBQ. Even the corn appeared to have been boiled not grilled. I'm lost as to where the monikered "BBQ Board" comes in?

A good pub with great ribs. Can be quite busy and crowded but the live music is good. I would recommend for more of a evening entertainment especially Saturday night. A good fun pub

Went for lunch at Fox&Ferret with our 2 year old. Nice cosy atmosphere. The staff was really nice and friendly, he even made sure that the kid was comfortable and happy. The specials for the day was well explained. The orders were taken promptly. The lunch menu was great value for money and the chicken carbonara was really delicious. My husband had the stonegrill. This was his first stonegrill experience and the staff did explain the process well enough. The $25 stonegrill lunch deal is a great value for money as it comes with 2 sides(a wide variety to choose from). They also have a good selection of desserts. Overall had a good time, nothing great but no complaints...!!!

Food4Thought

Had a stone grill fillet steak at the fox for an early dinner with a few friends. You just cant get it caramelized the same as on a real grill and then if you let it rest on a plate,your sides get cold. The sides of mash and greek salad were fine,the jus and the onion rings are nice. The staff are onto most things and friendly. Next time i will get the chef to cook my steak.

The Top Line: Great vibes, warm atmosphere, the best staff and really really really good food (desserts are the bomb)! The Review: Long story short – came here for the stone grill, they ran out of stone grill (HOW CAN YOU RUN OUT OF STONE GRILLS ITS JUST MEAT AND A PIECE OF STONE!!) but nevertheless I loved it!!! We had to resort to their regular menu – which was not extensive but included some steaks, pasta, salads … basically pub food. The highlight seemed like their dessert menu … because they made it very hard to decide.

First time back at the Fox & Ferret for two years. Absolutely appalled at the state of The Front of House team. Dirty aprons, careless service, and bad language in front of customers. I'm not sure you'd let it go in McDonalds. Ok, it's a pub. I'm paying $90-$130 tonight. My expectations are for service that at least matches the quality of the food. Which was, btw, outstanding.

First time visitor to Fox & Ferret and what an amazing experience ! Staff were absolutely fantastic , drinks served were beautiful and as for the dinner , I order Chicken Carbonara ! It was so damn delicious ! I have never ever had one taste that good before ! Overall my experience was very cosy and the food was absolutely delicious ! I would definitely come back when in Christchurch again :)

Regularly have lunch here and the lunch menu is great value for money, the cajun chicken sandwhich, soft tacos and fish and chips are delicious and the starters and dessert menu are good too. Staff are always friendly and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.

Relatively nice atmosphere although the music was a bit loud had to shout to talk to my friends however the music itself was good. Very delicious meal, I had the fox burger which was tasty and very large with a decent serving of chips so it was well worth the $25 however I did feel my burger was lacking with the bacon strips still it was a delicious burger. Quick and friendly customer service, would done again :)

Have tried several dishes here - Steak & Rib combo, Stonegrill, Surf&Turf - and all are great. Service seems to be highly dependent on where you get seated. In some areas it gets so dark you can't even see the menu and if you are isolated from the rest of the restaurant, it may be difficult to call on a waiter. Will be back :)

Went to this restaurant after a movie on a Thursday night, at about 8.30. Was dining alone. Took my drink order when I sat down, 10 minutes later I had to ask where my drink was. Food came out within a good timeframe, as they dont have to cook anything, so its to be expected. Veges werent great, salad had heaps of lettuce not much else. Ordered a dessert, and lo and behold, it never came. After waiting for 15 minutes, I got up and went to pay the bill. Told the woman at the counter I had ordered dessert and it never came, and all she said was 'Ok'. Terrible service.

(thursday 19th april rnd 7.30pm)We went to several places but were all full before we went here, when we entered it was as busy as every other location we had been to, we waited to be seated as per the sign, we were seated within 5 mins then had a nervous young waitress (was her 1st night so she told us) well she did really well as food and drink orders were taken within 10 mins of us sitting down, delivered to us with another maybe 15 mins, the food was lovely and good value for money and the service great, the only thing that let it down was the lighting, you could hardly read the menu as toooo dark, but other than that we will definitley be back

Me and my group of friends always come here for drinks, but on St. Patrick's Day we all decided to have dinner here as well. I had the StoneGrill Chicken Breast and I liked how I got to choose two side dishes from a wide varietie of salad and potato styles. I ended up choosing the mashed potato and garden salad and they both tasted great and it was fun cooking your own chicken on the Stone Grill too :) Every one else in the group seemed to be enjoying their steaks and burgers as well. But a steak for 40$ was a little pricey but my chicken only costed about $30 so its a little expensive but the food is presented well and is delicious.

My partner and I usually have an enjoyable experience at the fox and ferret. food is great, but my most recent visit was ruined by the service. We were seated upstairs for dinner, and i think our waitress was annoyed that she had to keep trudging up and down stairs to serve us, never got a smile, just grunts and angry faces. i ordered a $14 cocktail which was then half spilt all over the table as she gave it to me, with a reply of "whoops". no apology, no offer to get me a new drink or to clean it up so we had to mop up the mess ourselves. dissapointing.

Went in after a movie with friends. Great atmosphere and we were given good seats over looking the bar area. Food was really good. Large meals (prawns a bit on the small side) really tasty and very nice dessert. Good value, had a great time and will return with the loyalty card they gave me.

Not a bad place. The decor is London Pub, but it doesn't quite make it! - marks for trying though. Food is tasty and not bad value, but the drinks are a bit on the pricy side. Overall, will visit again, but won't make a special trip.

Favourite local for our flat mainly because its not far and not too expecnsieve. Good pub vibe and good prices for pints (at least $1 cheaper than Merivale). Big fans of the burgers, but not so keen on whatever brand tomato sauce they use. Could be better. Guys who work there are pretty nice and good at having a chat and making you feel welcome.

the atmosphere was fantastic good British pub kinda feel. The drinks were OK priced and the pints were very large which is great! the meal took 45 Min's to arrive after having to speak to the staff and the waitress forgot our second round of drinks then forgot one on top of that. food was tasty yet overpriced. would drink there again with the pool tables is a nice touch but food to expensive for what you get

Really great night here. Excellent accommodating staff, very good meal, great menu selection, it did take a little longer than usual but very busy place and worth it. Cool atmosphere with nice relaxed vibe. This will be our local now for sure.
