Great food variety and quite affordable. The food tastes great as well. Parking is a little tough. But you will definitely enjoy the drive. Try to go in the afternoon, rake a walk along the beach and then go for dinner. Excellent place for small parties. The people who work there are wonderful.

I absolutely loved the food here. The seafood platter is ridiculously good value for money, especially the large one.
It has a bit of everything: fried battered fish, pan-fried fish, salt and pepper squid, mussels, clams, scallops, and ceviche. All delicious.
I also had the shellfish bowl, which was mussels, clams and scallops cooked in a creamy broth, with a couple of pieces of bread and butter for soaking the sauce. I'd also recommend an extra cheese roll to dip or some chips to soak in it (I'm weird, I know). On our second visit we also tried the chowder and that was excellent.
100% recommend, just so good! Go and then enjoy the resulting food coma!

Sadly we were served substandard meals which had been sitting in the kitchen for ages (we could see them from our table in the conservatory and we desperately hoped they werent our meals, but others got the same poor service too). The sauce on the steak had a skin and had gone cold. the fish had dried at the edges and was cold. the specialty dish was the maui seafood platter and cost $41 - the clams and scallops and mussels were dried and shrivelled. When we went to pay they admitted our meals were substandard and apologised. But that was it. These meals, which had been left for over 5 minutes,should never have been taken to the table. We advised them when they served them to our table that they were cold too. We werent valued and substandard meals should NEVER be served. Wont be back.

Great little place to eat. Service was nice and informed. Food was great. Had the Green lipped mussels...loved them. My father-in-law was ready to drink the sauce so we ordered more toast. My wife and I both had fish and chips and it was great. The kids loved their kid meals. Well done Carey's.

We stopped for a drink and it’s a lovely old hotel. Bet the meals are great. Staff lovely. We sat outside looking at the water. Very nice and would def return. Nice drive out from Dunedin too. About 15 mins
