Outstanding! Absolutely wonderful food. I had the fish pie, it was super tasty and wholesome. The potato bake as a side dish was excellent with other grilled vegetables in top. Can't wait to come back and the other dishes on the menu.

Good pie and coffee. Good information for local attractions. Five years ago we discovered Sandfly Bay walk from the owner. This year the road to Sandfly Bay was closed, but we got Allans beach from the owner and we found several sea lions there. Very friendly and helpful.

Very good coffee options, true Kiwi hospitality, friendly staff and amazing slices! By the way the only open caffe in Portobello in the mornings. The amazing view is a free bonus and plenty of parking makes the things even easier.

Great, delicious food and very generous portions - great value. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location is also wonderful and has a nice view of the harbour. We look forward to returning next time we're in Dunedin.

Compliments to the chef who did an amazing job with our orders (pretty much customized it to our liking) and coffee was also very good. We were pleasantly surprised on the low prices considering the high quality (which can be an impossibility in Auckland sometimes). Please make sure you stop here if you're in Dunedin :)

Coffee was fresh and hot. Food is simple and very well done. You don't have a hundred options, the staff are real people. There is a cupboard full of toys for the kids and a high chair. We loved it. Thanks Penguin Cafe.

Really nice family ran cafe on the way up the peninsula. We ordered a chai latter and cappuccino. Both were delicious. Also grabbed the French toast which was very filling and good value for money. There is a cute bird who comes into the store to hang out. Very homely place and would recommend.

Run by a pleasant older couple. Currently for sale. Everything is ok without being tops. Toilet outside is a bit basic. Nice outside seating options and inside kept warm on cold days. Very reasonable prices and usually have good homemade options on the daily specials. They do excellent gluten free toasted sandwiches. Good information on display for other local attractions.

After visually checking out the few eating places in Portobello we chose Penguin Cafe and were very happy we did. It has a nice atmosphere (inside and out), very pleasant staff, and the breakfast dishes we chose were every bit what a full-on breakfast should be. The other food we saw on tables and on display looked terrific too. Don't think you can go wrong here for daytime food (not open in the evening)
