Review Albar - Dunedin

Nice little bar. Pot of mussels was tasty, but mussels were tiny. Tried their Salted Caramel Whiskey - Jury still out on that one, I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t get another. Great staff, nice selection of whiskey

No real good menu but their own made whiskey is the bomb ! Great place for beer too

Cute little bar with great beer on hand pumps. Didn't stop looking but has a nice flyte of tasters and a couple of halves. Bacon roll and Patatas Bravas was basic but tasty and reasonably priced. Would have liked to explore the vast selection of whisky, maybe next time.

Reminded me of typical UK pub unlike most NZ watering holes. Good selection of drinks. Decent pub snacks with novelty black pudding and haggis options!

Dropped by "Al-bah" on Christmas Eve as part of cruise ship day stop in Dunedin and had a great pot Dunedin style mussels and the 5 beer tasting tray. Nice atmosphere, good food and beers on tap and the most happening spot on the street!!

First time visitor, and I’ll be back next time I’m in Dunedin. Proper old school pub, nice atmosphere, and good beer. No TVs ruining things. Even had old guys, flat caps, and a dog. And locals. Just perfect.

Coming from Scotland myself, I was excited to take my German girlfriend here to try some Scottish cuisine. Between us we had the haggis balls, Lorne sausage and bacon roll, and patatas bravas. We enjoyed all 3 dishes however we both agreed that all were very over seasoned.

Loved the tennants lager... made me feel like I was back in scotland

Great pub in the middle of town. Quiet, cosy and with a nice/friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They serve Emerson's as well as several rotating beers on draft. Staff are pleasant and crowd is diverse and interesting.

Albar is probably the best craft beer bar in Dunedin, as it has a unique atmosphere besides a wide range of domestic and especially imported beers. Also being very close to the Octagon, it's just a stone's throw away from many restaurants and nightclubs.

However a couple of things to note are firstly that Albar is simultaneously a popular haunt and very small. This means it can easily get crowded and noisy. People also often smoke outside, which is off-putting to a nonsmoker like me.
