Review La Porchetta - Dunedin

Deepak Sharma
We were at Porchetta once again this Friday at lunch. It was a great experience once again - from being greeted at the door to starters coming fast and a great time. The ambience is quite nice as well. I took their beer on tap (single choice - makes it easy), potato wedges were nice and crispy and finally the vegetarian pizza. Will be back soon !

I really enjoyed pizza& soft drinks&coffee. All good except pasta.. I think the chef may be forgotten putting the salt.....

We had no booking on a very busy night (graduation). They managed to fit us in without a wait, the food was excellent and prompt, service was great. Fav pizza was Chicken, cranberry, brie and cashew, and the wedges were delicious. Thanks team, well done!

It was looking for quite place to have lunch and I found this place. It was wonderful, the waitress was super friendly and accommodating. The food was great, the place in general was good, toilet super clean. I recommend it!

I had a great dine-in experience here. The atmosphere was very good and the servers were very polite and helpful. Unfortunately I ordered a main gnocchi dish and got a spaghetti starter instead but i was hungry enough to not care or say anything. Regardless the pasta was delicious and the restaurant was also able to provide complimentary parmesan to accompany my meal. The portion size of the hot chips for a starter was big and great value. Thanks for the great hospitality!

Excellent dine in place. The lasagna was mid - but I also had pollo e funghi which was great! The staff were also really friendly and the general experience was enjoyable.

Had seafood spaghetti pescatore (white wine, garlic, olive oil. It was delicious 😋. I was still hungry so had an apple calzone and it was huge see below definitely filled me up.

Ordered the medium prosciutto pizza which larger than expected. The base was pillowy and light, the tomato sauce was vibrant yet not overpowering, and the balsamic glaze with the prosciutto and parmesan made for the perfect blend of sweet and savoury. Not to mention cheery service from the very helpful Olivia! Will definitely be returning!

Often got take out dinner from La Porchetta in Dunedin. Got our order wrong once during delivery and compensated with a $50 voucher. Amazing service, will definitely continue to dine there.

We ordered the satay pizza, cheese garlic bread, carbonara pasta, lasagna, and beff ragu, it was all delicious, and the portions were massive for the price, we would literally fly into Dunedin from Wellington just to order from this restaurant again. Our waiter was really nice aswell, he was friendly and gave us his honest recommendations for a few things which was really helpful.

Went for lunch and got the seafood platter. It was really nice, but I asked for garlic butter, and it cost $5! It really would have been a 5 star from me if not for the crazy price for some garlic butter. Good amount of seafood, fish was fresh and nicely cooked. The lady who served us was very friendly, prompt, and happy. Left us to it, so it wasn't over the top! I give her service 5 stars 🌟 🤩

Everything is good but last time I went with a friend for lunch the chips were so disgusting couldn't eat them all they were gross

My Family and I enjoy it everytime without fail. Such friendly service. I can't get enough of the Mushroom Fettuccine 😍. Kids get colouring in papers and crayons.

It was a very very below average experience but the staff deserved the 3 stars for being hardworking and attentive. We ordered the lasagne and vegetarian Alfredo for the food and a wild buck handle and ginger beer for drinks. The lasagne was apparently tolerable but the Alfredo was just not good. The sauce seemed very under-cooked and had no flavour at all. The pasta and the veggies were well-cooked but the main sauce was just so bland that I couldn’t even finish the entree size of their pasta dish.

Came here with my bestie and ordered a pasta and pizza. I think it was the tortellini alla matriciana that I ordered (it was a tomato based dish) and it was heavenly! I had never been so impressed by pasta-which I usually find too boring and bland. We also ordered a red wine but it was quite bitter and not up our alley. <br/>8/10<br/>Their pasta range is lovely, definitely need to try more of what they offer!

Great Italian food and excellent service <br/><br/>There was a minor issue with the order which was immediately rectified with an apology and the correct dish being produced. All of this was done with a smile. The servings are very large so it would certainly be possible to share if you are that way inclined.

Honestly, its a shame that that I live in the north island and my best italian experience had to be down in the south :(<br/><br/>Me and my cousin wandered into this place by chance and then we suddenly decided we were in the mood for italian food. We couldn't decide on whether we should get pasta or pizza so we got both and went halvsies. I ordered fettucine pollo e funghi and she ordered a smoked salmon pizza. Food arrived quickly and the smells from our food were very promising. <br/>Goddamn I haven't had good pasta in a while and I was afraid of eating it all too quickly because it meant that my good experience would have been over. I wish I could come back here :'(

Been here a few times for both lunch and dinner. Food is good, not great but enjoyable. Service from staff is OK too. Food is filling, a little pricey though. Came with a large group once and meals came out at  significantly different times even when we all ordered at the same time.

Came here with a large group and had the carbonara. Decent okay food, not really worth the price but was ok. Staff service was very mediocre. I felt that they were reasonably attentive but rarely saw them smile and service did not seem genuine.

Went for a birthday dinner last week. The appointment process was simple, and they handled our group very well. The staff were attentive and friendly, made sure to ask if we needed anything and served all our meals at a decent time, all within an extremely short time frame of eachother.<br/><br/>I ordered the chicken pizza (satay chicken) in medium which was big enough to share between 2 people. It was nice but nothing special, probably wouldnt order again. The pasta dishes though looked really good, really large portions which were enough to share between 2/3 people. My friends who had the pasta found it to be very good, though lacking a bit of salt (which is just down to individual taste, i'd say)<br/><br/>Overall a good meal, and really great service. The service is a key part of the night and we thank the La Porchetta Staff for making my friend's birthday an enjoyable one.

A group of us (11 people) went for dinner on the 7/02/15. Food was good, highly recommend "the lot" pizza. Cheesecake was nice too. But above all else I was extremely impressed with the service, exceeded all expectations. Look forward to going back again soon.

Went for Lunch on Waitangi day. Restaurant is clean with a neat decor with a touch of Italy. Staff is very friendly but we were served by 2 different people which seemed to be confused with our order and what the other person had done/said.<br/><br/>We ordered 2 Napoletana pizzas an Italian Salad and Gnocchi. One of the 2 pizzas was gluten free. When the food arrived they brought us a Napoletana pene instead of the gluten free pizza. The waiter argued to start with that we had miss-ordered and that there was no Napoletana pizza but in the end rectified the problem. The normal pizza and the gnocchi were cold and rather bland. The gluten free pizza was hot, well covered by anchovies and olives and very tasty. Since we did not finish eating all the pizza we were asked if we wanted to take it away and we agreed.<br/><br/>Paying the bill I noticed that the bill was $10 more then expected. I was told that this included a 15% holiday surcharge and a $2 charge for the take home box. The restaurant does not advertise these extra charges. I pointed this out and was told that this is clearly explained on their website. I can not find this information on their website and I am disappointed that we were not made aware of the extra charges.<br/><br/>All up NOT the way I wanted to celebrate Waitangi day.

waitresses were lovely and helpful, restaurant and restrooms were clean and tidy but meals took forever same with drinks was not alot of people there so dont know why such a long wait. had a table of 11 everyone got there meals except one of us who had to wait a bit longer. lasange was lovely guest happy with pizzas. prices are high. kids got to make there own pizza but they didnt get tomato which must of cost extra so when i asked for some they said they were out of tomatoes.  overall would rather go to the local pub for a nice meal than there again, really dissapointed

Started with the waiter spilling my drink all over me and then not replacing the drink until about 15 minutes when a replacement drink was asked for..... Spent about 20mins trying to dry myself off and waited 1hour and 45minutes untill our food was served. The food was not hot either when it was served and when asking for a discount due to the wait they said we served you 2 bits of garlic bread which cost $40. The drink which was spilt still had to be paid for as well as the meal at full price. Very dissapointed with the customer service. There were also drunk people skipping down the aisles in the restaurant at about 8:00pm. Even one of the staff recommended that we shouldn't come back and it would have been better to have gone to McDonald's which is right next door.

From the beginning it was a disaster. Having already booked a table we had pre conceived ideas that our waiting time would be slim however we were proved wrong. The concierge was rude and disrespectful and repeatedly asked for identification, after telling him we were not consuming any alcohol nor did we have any or be in the company of anyone who was he still demanded and persisted. After showing him the only identification we had which happened to be my partners police badge we were forced to wait 25 minutes for a table. Our waiter took the same time to ask for or drinks and first orders as well as asking if we could be quick as they wanted the table. We were made to feel rushed and unwanted and considered leaving. Soon after ordering our mains arrived. The pizza and pasta were mediocre and I guess to satisfaction. Over all the service was poor and the food was nothing special. Would recommend if you are on a tight budget like myself but otherwise certainly consider elsewhere.

Had the best food ever, love everything that our whole family had.<br/>It will now be a place that I will go.<br/>Price is right, food is amazing and big servings, I am glad that I only got small and entrée size.<br/>wow loved the experience, and glad I went. Didn't like the reviews that I read and was just about put off.<br/>you have to try it!

We visited for the first time tonight. Ordered a bubbly wine and would you believe that there was not one to be had in the whole restaurant. I was blown away that I couldn't get a wine. Had to settle for water instead. <br/>We ordered at 6pm and got our meals at 7pm. Not impressed with the service as it was too slow. The meals were delicious though and for that reason would probably go back. <br/>If they improved there slow service then I would up the stars on the review. <br/>People arrived after us and ordered after us and they ate and left before our food even came out. Makes me wonder if they forgot about us. There were only 3 of us!

My experience with La Porchetta was not great. Firstly I thought the pizza was no better than something you order from pizza hut, but that didnt bother me too much because I like pizza hut, just expected a bit more from a proper restaurant. What really annoyed me was the waitress asking if I would like BBQ sauce on my meat lovers, as anyone would I said yes please. When I went to pay I noticed that I had been charger an extra $2 for the BBQ sauce. This was unfair as the waitress made it seem as if the BBQ sauce was free, also it was clearly a budget brand and not at all worth the extra $2. Lastly the service was slow.

First of all I suggest they check their answer phone more often as my partner rang on Tuesday the 11th and booked us in for 7:30pm on Valentines night (14th) The message says they will ring you back if there is a problem with seating you!! Thursday afternoon they call him back to say they are packed all night and couldn't fit us in which is fine! So my partner rings back with my name and number and they can ONLY seat us at 9pm!! We get there just after 8:30pm and there is a lot more than just our table sitting empty.<br/>For an Entree we ordered a medium Pizza, that came out after about 15 mins which was fine! The pizza was seafood! I thought it wasn't too bad, just a tad over done and bland, wouldn't have been that hard to put a sauce over top but hey!! <br/>FIVE!!! mins after getting our pizza as the Entree our two mains come out!! The waitress did say "sorry, the kitchens just a bit crazy at the moment" No matter how busy you are that is shit!!! but anyway!! I enjoyed my Chicken pasta but again...lacking in the sauce department! My partner got a tomato, seafood pasta which wasn't at all nice. With two drinks it came to a total of $60 which isn't that bad!! I guess we'll be back!! Maybe just put in a little more effort!!

Beautiful affordable restaurant, but definitely lacking in food quality.<br/>Ordered the Avocado chicken pasta, and was extremely let down. sauce was bland and the chicken tasted like it had been boiled and was dry and tasteless. <br/>Its only getting 3 stars because of the good staff service, but was also confused as to why there 2 different people waiting on us.<br/>I'm sorry but i think I'm gonna stick to my local pubs pasta dish, not returning back to this restaurant.

If you want Italian, this isn't the place for you. However, good value for money pub fare but Italian, it is not. Foccacia was doughy and very cheesey, garlic prawns served on a 1980's mound of stodgy rice and served with chips!!<br/>Table beside us never received their pizza, they complained and after waiting finally walked out with their pizza - not happy customers.<br/>A lot of staff seemingly not doing a great deal.<br/>A missed opportunity Dunedin - could have been great but don't think we will return sorry.

Remember Cobb and Co?, La Porchetta is the 'Italian version", kiwi take on Italian favourites, perfect for a family dinner as we had, service and wait times were lacking, and bearing in mind they have just opened so we will be back to give it another go. Fresh ingredients, excellent prices and friendly staff.
