Review Buster Greens - Dunedin

Teresa B
I was staying just over the road for 3 days while visiting the university and came to this cafe 4 times in that time - stopped here for breakfast right after arriving in Dunedin and the food was so good that I absolutely had to come for breakfast every day (plus a stop in for lunch)! Everyone who works here is really friendly and helpful - they gave great menu recommendations and even offered to hide my suitcase for me when i stopped here on the way to the airport, so I wouldn’t have to carry it down the stairs. The atmosphere and aesthetic are really cute and relaxing, and whoever is in charge of their playlists has smashing taste. 10/10!

The "Eggs your way" sourdough with Bacon Hash and Halloumi was an absolute winner. The ambiance of the cafe was warm and create a good atmosphere to enjoy my breakfast. Overall a wonderful visit. Added some more pics from latest visit

Amazing cinnamon roll and a really good beef pie. The coffee was great and the atmosphere is chilled.

Final meal in Dunedin before we started our journey back to Tauranga, and what a place to find. The food was stunning and the coffee also. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

First time visit to this cafe and I was very impressed with the beautful interior decor, design and the food. Great menu selection and all so tasty. The coffee and smoothies were good too. I had the avo on toast with fried halloumi and bacon - probably the best version I've ever tasted. Another person had the brioche french toast with poached pears, which looked amazing. The staff seemed friendly-enough. Very yummy looking baked goods too. Would definitely go back there.

I could be one of the top 10 food/coffee snobs in NZ and have to say right now, this is the best cafe in Dunedin. The coffee is superb and the food is worthy of a Michelin Star imo. I've been there at least 10 times now and everything is immaculate and complex from coffee to flavours in the dishes. There are maybe 3 other cafes in this range but so far Busters has the edge.

Nice little place for breakfast/lunch. It feels a little cramped upstairs with tables being quite close to each other, but there are extra tables downstairs. It is on the pricey side and they could do with more vegan options (only 3 things to choose from), but overall a pretty good place to grab a bite.

Named for a famous English war hero. They have done him proud. Set the standard for pan fried Blue Cod. Not fine dining but definitely great dining. Pretty good vine list as well. Really liked this place.

Cute little cafe with a good range of cabinet and hot food. Coffee was a little too roasted for our liking, didn’t go down smooth as well. Loved the buster’s breakfast, pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth good. Chilli scrambled eggs wasn’t spicy, more so chilli jam, which was slightly disappointing.

The Brioche French Toast was on the light side. It was very favorable with just the perfect amount of sweetness. My favorite was the avocado on toast with fried Halloumi. Eggs were nicely poached just the perfect dish.

Beautifully well decorated interior with greenery and a welcoming layout of the cafe with an open view of the well stocked cabinet. I was very pleased with their varied cabinet treats, and definitely would like to try their raw slices next time! The layout of the cafe was very spacious-even though we had to share a table today, it never felt cramped or uncomfortable, and I think they did a really good job organising the seating arrangement. As for the menu-everything was beautifully printed and I see that their menu changes from time to time which is a real treat. The staff were friendly and patient and we were served with a jug of lemon mint water. We ordered lamb shoulder with flatbread and pork belly crumpet bene. Wait wasn't too long considering everything was made from scratch! The lamb shoulder was a well portioned hearty chunk of lamb which was tender and the meat pulled apart effortlessly. The flatbread was thick and accompanied well with the hummus. Personally I couldn't taste the smokiness of the hummus, but the lamb itself was very well done (and for a cafe too!). Pretty pleased overall that lamb would be served at a cafe. 7.5/10 The pork belly was just as tender as the lamb, it was a good chunk of fat and lean meat, and the lean part was never dry or tough to chew. The crumpet itself was also thick and chewy, some of the edge was crisp, and it was well paired with the marinated pork belly and the heaping of hollandaise and two poached runny yolk eggs on top! Hollandaise sauce was creamy and it added a lovely touch to the meal. 8.5/10 Overall, had a lovely experience dining here, there's definitely something different about Buster's that differs to general cafes. I would like to come again, as the food they serve is unique and eye-catching, however the prices to me is still a little steep for the quantity. 4/5 stars overall

Delicious food, great service, great coffee but my friend complained hers was too small. The cafe is very pretty and the food comes out fast and is reasonably priced. Absolutely my favourite cafe in Dunedin.

One of the best cafés for breakfast we've had in all of NZ! I wasn't able to make up my mind, so the kind staff recommended the turkish eggs, it was heaven ! The spices and hummus, I believe, were really on point. The sourdough was fresh as well. Paired with a pot of T2 Green rose tea, can't ask for a better start on a rainy morning! Everyone was really happy with their meals! Must visit if one ever comes to Dunedin!
