Review Taste Of Tandoor -indian Restaurant And Bar - Dunedin

6 out of 5 if I could. Try the veg samosa starter!! Friendly staff, quick service and great food, all at amazing value. The surroundings are basic but comfortable and i’m happy that the effort goes in to meals more than glitz and glam. Highly recommended.

Delicious lamb Saagwala dish with a good quality wine and yummy mint yoghurt The beef was so tender and spinach flavour was amazingly blended into the curry, very tasty! I ordered mild but the curry was a bit hot for me. I just mentioned it to Akshay, and he kindly changed it for me!! So polite, nice and friendly and he happily gave me a new dish with more rice! The portions are also big. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also really lovely. Akshay was very nice and professional. Highly recommended!

Great food, couldn't even finish as the serving sizes were very large. Very affordable as well, as it was happy hour. Definitely recommend.

Butter Chicken ,Goan Fish curry and Chicken Biryani was absolutely delicious and divine.Service was great as well, our new favourite food place now whenever we visit Dunedin 😋😋

Very pleased with Taste of Tandoor, I dined in and had Palak Paneer with Cheese Naan and a Tiger Beer. Good price, great food, reminded me of my first Indian meal of Palak Paneer, so scrumptious. Very accommodating staff, couldn’t fault, well done Taste of Tandoor 👍

I visited this place in afternoon. I ordered palak paneer and 2 roti. The portion of palak paneer was too small. It's location is convenient. Will visit and try other items. Food taste was okay.

The food here was amazing. Would highly recommend the pizza naan, it was amazing. The place has a really nice atmosphere and would be perfect for a group outing. Service was a bit on the slow side, took around 50 minutes from when we got there to have our food bought out. Our starters arrived about 5 minutes before the curry. It was not overly busy when we ordered. Nice experience but would have been better if we were told about the timeframe.

Yumm.... love this Indian cuisine, tasty and will back again if I visit Dunedin. Good services and affordable prices.

best butter chicken - actually has taste and spices. haven't had a bad curry & their prices are by far the best in Dunedin

Generous portions for takeaway and bonus points for putting them in secure containers that don’t leak. The paneer butter masala is amazing! Not totally thrilled with the garlic nan and raita but that’s okay. We were at Sara spice a few days ago which is much higher rated and the quality is nearly the exact same. Well done :)

Four friends shared a platter & four dishes to experience the most delicious Indian cuisine we have ever tasted. We have travelled in India but never found such flavors in the home country. I highly recommend dining at Taste of Tandoor

The best Indian food we've ever tasted. Absolutely delicious. The chocolate naan is a must and the pizza naan was really good too. Bestg value for money with their 2 for 1 curry and great service. Just wish I lived in Dunedin so I could back again and again.

Delicious food and friendly service, would highly recommend. Dunedin's standard for Indian food remains high!

The food was plentiful and the service friendly but unfortunately fell a bit short of 4 stars. <br/><br/>I found the Onion Bhaji to be too dry and over cooked for my liking. However the serving size was large. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very nice with heaps of chicken in it. Again the serving size was big. And the garlic naan was very tasty and cooked perfectly. <br/><br/>The service was friendly but unfortunately they were waiting for my entree to be finished before bringing out the mains. When I realised this after a bit is a wait I was able to get my mains fairly quickly. <br/><br/>Note the staff didn’t know about Zomato and I got the impression it isn’t used much in Dunedin with few recent reviews.

Ordered through Delivereasy - the food came on time and arrived hot. The food was surprisingly authentic and really nice. The naan I had wasn’t burnt and that’s hard to come by these days. Only thing is I found the rice was slightly watery. However this is certainly my top pick for Indian food in Dunedin!

Pretty standard place, good selection of mains and starters. Interior is tidy and staff are polite and attentive. Can get a little bit noisy/echo. Food was fine, could of been spicier but that's always a hard thing to get good balance on so I don't judge too harshly. Reasonable amount of meat in the meals. I'd definitely keep this place up your sleeve, and it's absolutely worth checking out with a mate during the 2-1 hours.

The restaurant is very welcoming although a little chilly at times. The food is delicious and well priced for a budget. The delivery option is amazing and the food always arrives faster than expected. Highly recommend for a quiet night out or a delicious meal in.

Food was sooo much better than the last Indian takeaways I had tried. Asked for not very spicy and got what I asked for. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family

Not the best of food but still not the worst! Okayish ambience wise, same with the food. I think the food lacked a bit of extra flavour that i was looking for. A decent place costing decent bucks...

My partner and I went here for the first time on a whim, as normally I haven't enjoyed many other Indian Restaurants in Dunedin. However, I was so pleasantly surprised by the food I got, and how authentic it truly was, that I have been recommending this restaurant to my friends ever since. They were polite and friendly even though we came close to closing time and they had just had a large group in, and continued to be attentive for the whole meal. The food was so flavourful and authentic that I could not have been happier and will now be one of my first choices when eating. Highly recommend to any authentic Indian food lover.

Adore backyard events and the summer, However, I hate that component when I must order every thing about the beverages as well as the the meals. So I was searching for eco-friendly food away from home and fortunately choice was found by me to consider a smorgasboard or some menu for house - undoubtedly get tremendous success . Next period I will certainly favor the chance to purchase food away from home. You've got most of the choices you would like. They only allow it to be possible for you -galleri269

I had a meal here recently. It is a BYO restaurant, with pleasant decor, a relaxed atmosphere and very attentive waitresses. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by my meal here - Malai Kofta, a dish which is usually a favourite of mine, but which on the occasion of my dining at this establishment, brought to mind a combination of wallpaper paste, salt, sugar, cardamom and more salt. I could barely finish the food. Others at the table said their meals were good, so perhaps it is just the Malai Kofta which should be avoided. Nonetheless, it is doubtful that I will return.<br/>

The New Indian Summer is the best Indian restaurant in town, the food here comes closest to the authentic Indian cuisine. The chefs have a wealth of experience under their belt. Chefs who are also the owners, helped open another Indian restaurant in town before moving to open their own restaurant. Highly recommended for butter chicken and the starter tandoori platter. <br/><br/>Give it a try. you would love it !

I went to New Indian Summer Restaurant with my mates and had Chicken Kadai and Lamb Rogan Josh. I loved the dishes and the service there is amazing with extremely friendly staff. I recommend everyone to please go and experience the wonderful atmosphere and everlasting tasty dishes that are available at New Indian Summer Restaurant and I guarantee that it will be a memorable experience and remember to take your friends and family along as well. :)

New Indian Summer is one of my best restaurants around town, they make the best butter and Mango chicken I have ever had so far. And their Indian drink Mango Lassi is too good.Their customer service is just so incredible, a great place to be any day.

Our Book Group ordered a selection of 5 dishes as takeaways and all were lovely. We talked about various restaurants in Dunedin and decided it was important to give feedback.<br/><br/>"great food, excellent prices and we will al go back there again and recommend to our friends... the power of word of mouth<br/>Thanks for superb food"<br/><br/> and only comment was it would be good to have menu of website to on-line order.

So recently I found out about Indian Summer Restaurant and decided to try the menu with a friend of mine. The dishes we ordered were lamb rogan josh and malai kofta. I must say this was the best curry in town. The service was excellent and I was so impressed we booked a table for 20 next week. <br/>If you love curry as much as I do, try Indian Summer Restaurant you won't be disappointed.<br/>Will follow up with next weeks dine in...I am sure it will be awesome!<br/><br/>Went back in a week and surely enough great service n delicious food. Will go again <br/>

Haven't been here since before it had some serious issues a few years ago. Now under new management, it has improved significantly. <br/><br/>'A' rated now. Attentive, friendly &amp; helpful waiter &amp; a lovely meal. Just right for level of spice, great flavours &amp; tender chicken in both our curries. <br/><br/>Naan looks great in the teardrop shape but it's hard to manage so we liked that ours was cut into nice sized portions &amp; served in a basket. <br/><br/>On reflection, the only thing I can say that I found odd was that the mango lassi was an astonishingly bright yellow. It just seemed unnaturally bright compared to others I have had. Was yummy though. <br/><br/>We'll be back.

This is my favorite restaurant in town. Recently I went there with my wife and two little kids. The friendly staff made us sit in a nice cosy corner and took our order. We had a lamb curry and a chicken curry with some roti and rice. The food was delicious as always. The kids felt very comfortable and enjoyed their food with mango lassi. I often go to this restaurant for take away food. But this time it was even a better experience to dine with the family. The staff were attentive and gave a good service. The place itself if big enough to give you a classy feeling. I would be very pleased to go there again and again. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to try authentic Indian food and who loves curries.

I visited this restaurant once last year and was largely satisfied by them. But I returned on a busier night this year and it was clear that their waiters and chefs alike could not manage. Our reservation had not been remembered and was written down under a different name. All but one of the waiters were very slow and inattentive. When the food finally did come out, the orders had all been mixed up in terms of spiciness and some curries came out almost cold. The amount of rice offered was nowhere near enough for five people and the naans came out ten minutes after the curries. When one of our party did complain that the curry they ordered was very mild, not hot, the waiter offered to make another one. But in fact, they just added more sauce on the top of the old dish, plus lots of visible curry powder. The food overall was merely decent, with the flavours lacking subtlety and the meat quite tough. The mango lassi was good though. Only visit on a quiet night.

Having read the other reviews for New Indian Summer Restaurant, I found that my experience was very similar to what has been posted. The staff were extremely inattentive. Our drinks order was completely forgotten and I had to ask twice more before it arrived. When I finished mine, I wanted another but, surprise surprise, we were never approached by anyone to ask if things were OK.<br/><br/>The food was OK but nothing special.

I had a deal voucher which entitled me to an entree platter for 2, 2 curries and 2 naan breads. It said to the value of $something.<br/>The only way I could've reached this value was to have the meat entree platter, seafood curries, and more expensive naans.<br/>Nope we got what we were given, vegetarian platter, even when I asked for the meat platter, 2 garlic naans, even when I asked for a different type.<br/>Will not eat here again.
Ireviewfoodforfun
I went here recently for a dinner with a friend and we had a vegetarian entree platter and then 2 curries and nann and everything was great. We also both remembered coming here for a large dinner with over 25 people years ago and everything was great that time as well.<br/><br/>Our platter came out promptly and all 4 vegetarian options were great, I wasn't keen on the mushrooms but I don't like mushrooms and my friend really enjoyed them<br/><br/>Our mains took a wee bit longer to come out but it was worth the wait. The service was friendly and attentive and I will be back again with friends for sure.

My favourite Indian place in Dunedin. Unlike others who have recently reviewed, I have been here more than 3 or 4 times and never once found the service to be bad - in fact, I would say it is the best service I have experienced at an Indian restaurant in Dunedin.<br/><br/>The food is always great and I've never had to wait long on my order. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We visited this restaurant on 31 Dec 2012 and the quality of food as well as service was very nice. So we decided to dine at this restaurant on valentine’s day. Unfortunately this time quality of the food was average and serving time was too long. we have been waiting for 10 minutes to get a glass of water and after that 10 more minutes to placed our order for starters. After finishing our starters we have been waiting for about 15 to 20 minutes to place our orders for the mains. After waiting for another 45 minutes, I went up to the counter to ask when we would get our mains? And the standard answer was “we are working on your order and you will get it in 2 minutes”. Initially we thought the delay is because of the Valentine ’s Day rush but we saw some people who came after us had already finished their dinner and going back. Finally we got our order and as expected they forget to serve us Naan bread so the waiting period was 10 more minutes so we had our dinner having cold curry and hot naan bread. (I don’t know whether this is because of this time we were there on deal vouchers or their lethargy?)

After reading about the pushy waiters, we where a little apprehensive. They where fantastic. Food was great. We asked for a little something different, they accommodated us without any questions asked . Value for money and understatement. As my mother says our eyes are bigger than our bellies. Food tasted great meat was really tender. Top evening highly recommended.

Awkward and pushy waiters. Nasty atmosphere. foods not bad but wasn't the best Indian food I have tried. Awesome range of Indian breads though.

I previously rated this the best Indian restaurant in town, but my last visit in July proved otherwise. (I since learned they had changed owners and perhaps chefs?)<br/>The food was not nearly as nice as it used to be, and they forgot to bring out one of our dishes.<br/>I gave the place another go and had take out from there last month and it was terrible.<br/>Very disappointing for what in my opinion was once a premium Indian restaurant in town.

Went with a bunch of girlfriends for a catch up dinner, all of us were so impressed with our meals, we had a selection of meat and vegetarian curries and all were delicious. The meals are served in lovely metal dishes and presented so nicely. Really good sized meals for the price and the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming - nothing was a bother.

We dined at this restaurant over the Queens birthday weekend, and discovered that it is excellent value for money. The service is also impeccable and cannot be faulted. Worth visiting again. Could be best Indian restaurant in Dunedin! <br/>

The food here is AMAZING. Great value too (we had 2 bottles of wine, 2 starter platters, 6 mains and 6 naan for $220). for the amount of food we got and the quality we were all very full and satisfied. The naan selection is great too. The venue is very interesting and nice too. Best indian I have had in Dunedin.
Nigel Lynn
Great lunch deal - $9.90 gets you ANY curry from the menu (even seafood), rice and delicious fluffy buttery naan.<br/><br/>Curries were really yummy - one of the best I have had.<br/><br/>Service was great!<br/><br/>Will def. be going back and telling everyone!

Fantastic friendly service, and the best curries we have had for years (if not ever). Even the Naan bread was delicious. Beautiful decor, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Will visit again, either eat in or takeaway. The prices are very comparable to others, but the food is much nicer. Also very generous amounts of meat in the curry, which is rare these days. Definitely recommended to all.

I had the butter chicken and it was very nice. I ordered it Extra hot (overcompensating) and was glad I did. My friend ordered his meal hot and it was pretty mild by our tastebuds. Service was friendly

Very nice restaurant with excellent food service was reasonable

loved the fact that they had a blackboard menu with specials and dishes other than the standard menu. service, quality and quantity fantastic

A group of 25-30 of us went to this restaurant in October. They were down one chef (away at a wedding), and you would have never known. We love indian food and thought this was great along with the service. Will be going there again.

I recommend that if you go in a group, think wisely when considering this place for dinner. My group and I waited 2 hours and 30 minutes for dinner. The people who came in after us came in after us and finished dinner before we had received out food. We are never going back here again!

Wow EXCELLENT food i really liked it!

I LOVE Indian food - and will seek it out anywhere I am in the world. I only recently stumbled across Dunedin's INDIAN SUMMER - and can highly recommend it as the most intricately flavoured and beautifully "sauced" Indian menu in the city.

Excellent food- that should say it all!Very hospitable staff.
