Review Side-on - Dunedin

Vegetarian options (probably vegan too). Delicious breads and great looking pastries - it was hard to choose between them! Beautiful space with a seated area too - it’s not just a bakery front! Really enjoyed the food (I bough from the ‘cabinet’ area - I haven’t tried from the menu).

Worst oat chai latte I've tasted in my life, they use in house chai syrup that tastes like an essential oil diffuser. Best almond croissant ever in Dunedin! Delicious!👍 cardamom bun not that great. Complained to counter that I could barely drink their chai latte. No offer on a new drink. Maybe I'm accustomed to better service for bad drinks but that's alright. Will come back for more almond croissant

Awesome little bakery with an impressive range of pastries etc as well as a delicious looking dine in menu, most of which is vegetarian. It was a struggle to decide what to have! I loved their cardamom bun and also grabbed a pain au choc to go which was brilliant too. I’d literally come back to Dunedin just to eat here again, so I’d highly recommend.

Really well brewed smooth coffee! I like the taste because the beans aren’t too bitter but could be a little bit stronger in taste. Still really good! We also got the cardamom bun which was fluffy, taste and baked perfectly. I’d definitely come back to try other pastries and baking goods. Highly recommend!

I found they made authentic desserts and visited again with my partner. I was stunned once more! The sandwich was massive and full of fresh ingredients. The salami, parsleys, ham, cheese, baby spinaches and handmade bread! The best ever! I couldn't even finish it over there and fetched it for dinner as well. When it comes to dessert, I've tried cardamom roll, pan au chocola, brown butter cookie, mascapone chocolate tart. None of them disappointed me. Every single thing was authentic. You can see different range whenever you visit then you can't be sick of their menu. Especially, brown butter cookies, it's fabulous when you have it a bit cool. The butter flavour is flooring at every bite and half the cookie is chocolate. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again

Ordered the cardamom scroll, cinnamon pull a part and salad sandwich. Can honestly say this was the best salad sandwich I've ever had, thick and full of various different vegetables, sauces and haloumi which all blended together wonderfully in some amazingly crunchy and chewy bread. At $12, an absolute bargain! The other items as expected were also amazing for our drive back to Queenstown and thoroughly enjoyed them even a few hours later. A must visit for any bakery loving persons in Dunedin!

The food here was great! We loved the spicy pork sandwich and the halloumi toast. I also ordered a cookie but we ate it before we could take a photo, I think that speaks volumes about how good the cookie was. 🍪

As a person who mostly goes around drinking latte, this place features one of the best and most consistent latte! I've been there 7 or 8 times and was never disappointed. The latte has a very mild yet pleasant caramel-ish aftertaste to it without the bitterness. As for food I went twice for thier grilled confit mushroom sandwich and it was awesome as well. Highly recommended for the good food and good 'people' (other than the friendly baristas, Peoples is also the brand of coffee beans they are using). Photos are from 2 different visits featuring the same food and drink.

A nice cosy bakery with some seating places and some great bites. We went on a recommendation of a friend and it was well worth it. We had a grilled sandwich, brioche and the ginger-lime soda. Each of these were really good. But being a vegetarian, the grilled sandwich really clicked with me. I have had the croissant during a previous visit. Will recommend that.

Reviews are spot on. Customer service is prompt and pleasant. I had the halloumi substitute for the sausage burger; the halloumi was grilled to perfection, and layered with fried egg and hash, it was amazing I took my time to savour it. Had oat hot chocolate too, was great. The pain au chocolat was super flaky, I wished there was more chocolate in there but it was just a stick of chocolate in the whole pastry. Tasted great though. I’ll come back again

A nice wee place for a quick meal. Service and food was quick, the atmosphere and the staff was even better.

Fantastic sourdough. Nice crust and scoring on outside, fluffy and just right moisture on inside. For a reasonable price. Can't believe it has taken me 3 years of living in Dunedin to go to Side On.

Had to return 2 days in a row for breakfast, oh my gawdd!! I think I could eat here every single day of my life, it's that good! All the cabinet food as well as menu items all incredible, especially the potato hash cake with salmon wow! And the take-away sandwiches what I would call a proper sandwich! there is a real craftsmanship and skill to making bread, probably the best I've tasted.

Had a nice lunch here today and took home a couple of pastries. I had the confit mushroom grilled sandwich and my son had the cauliflower halloumi dish, they were delicious and presented beautifully. We felt bad that we couldn't finish them as large servings. Great service by friendly staff, if you're in Dunedin we recommend this place

Always loved the baking from Side-On and have been visiting them since 2019. I have to say it’s harder to get in now because it’s always so packed 😂 but we managed to devour the apple crumble croissant yesterday and it was just AMAZING!!!!! The crumble, custard, apple, and croissant 💯 Will have to return for more during non-busy hours 🤤

Highly recommend this cafe. The line out of the door indicates its success. Great atmosphere, great food and great coffee. In addition to those high ratings, I rate their bread to be as good as that which I bake. 5 star indeed.

Always good here. Friendly staff. Great coffee. Lots of variety of food. Scrambled eggs with chilli sauce today.

Absolutely amazing. Their sandwiches will keep you full a whole day, great coffee and amazing pastries. Best value for money I’ve seen in a NZ cafe. Only problem is, there are too many delicious looking options to chose from
