Seriously excellent spot to take kids and get tonnes of super fresh, tasty, perfectly cooked veges into them (before the deep fried ice cream 🤤). Only constructive feedback... Those horrid little wineglasses - give them back to the Rovers circa 1980 and buy a few nice ones to hold your respectable wine selection 😉

Hello Michael, On behalf of our family and guests, we would like to thank you and your staff for looking after us while celebrating our brother Ken's 70th. Everyone had a great time. The food was excellent, and the two who are gluten-free were extremely pleased also. Please pass on our thanks to your staff. They were fantastic with their service and awesome attitudes. I really enjoyed a bowl of tofu with selected vegetables for my mother Beverly's 80th birthday dinner with sister Simone's family and a few friends and relatives last night. I recommend this main dish.

Great place, good prices. The rice dishes are delicious, as are all of the other ones I tried. The spring rolls are really crispy and have a yummy filling, but mine had a bit too much salt on the outside of it.

Loved the restaurant. Clean and tidy. The Chinese theme is really well done. The food was excellent. Except the lemon fish..... stay away from that. Staff are very friendly and we're great hosts

Love this shop for some takeaways. Always good, always tasty, always hot and fresh. I love the owners/managers, always giving great service and so friendly. Really keen for some of their food now if I’m being honest.

Lovely decor with great service. We chose the platter for 4 and two kids meals. Drinks were first, and the children's meals came out before the adults which is excellent. Plenty of food for four, great portion sizes and free rice refills if requested. Chinese tea at the end cleansed our palettes and rounded off a lovely meal. You will not be disappointed if you choose to dine here!

This used to be a favourite always good fresh tasty food. 7 years overseas and in Dunedin for night. Worked all day then 2 1/2 hour drive to Dunedin. Called into old favourite. Orders won't on soup a O.mg this used to be a favourite when in Dunedin. Ordered takeaway Monday night won't on soup and deluxe fried rice. Tasteless soup doughy wonton with basically no filling. As for fried rice 2 bits of chicken 4 dry slivers of pork and mushrooms and half a kilo of tasteless rice. Will not be back

We came here for takeaways, we ordered sweet and sour pork and the combination chow mein. The sweet and sour pork was delicious and the best part is they give you the fried pork pieces and the sauce so that when you get home you can add as much or little sauce as you want and the pork is crispy! Best sweet and sour pork! The chow mein was pretty average but would come back for the pork.

My husband LOVES the steak and egg burger here - he rates it 4 out of 5. I took a bite and I agree it tasted pretty good!! I ordered a donut (it was small and literally burnt half solid!!! .. looking at it I thought it was chocolate.. biting into it I thought it was chocolate except for the taste.. it was burnt right through). Chips were ooook but not how I like em. I ordered a $5 lunch box.. good price.. but.. when I took a bite of the veggies and then the rice they had a wierd taste ... the hubby took a bite and he named the taste correctly... it had a "pan" taste. I was hungry so I downed the food .. however.. i wouldn't go back. The husband will go back for the burger.

I was very worried bout dining here after reading the last few reviews and I am pleased to say I should not have been! Place was clean, service fast, polite, and friendly. They took my birthday cake out of the plastic container and placed it on a lovely platter and even dimmed the lights when the brought it out with the candles going! Lovely yummy food and good value and like someone else said, I don't like sweet and sour pork but theirs was yummy!

We dined last night with a group of 13. The food was very bland and boring and very small amounts BUT the worst part that ruined our whole night was that there was about 6 piles of vomit from the back area of the café to the toilets on the floor. My son went to the toilet and alerted me to this - I then talked to our waitress who agreed it needed attention BUT did nothing for the next two hours while we were eating beside and could visibly see this !!!! Totally disguisting and very unhygienic we will never return to such a poorly cleaned restaurant.

Never been in the restaurant part but have done the takeaways a few times. The food is nice, I found it a bit dull but no one else seemed to have complaints. I actually fell in love with the sweet and sour pork - which is a dish I have refused to eat my entire life because I hated it. So good on Nanking for actually getting me to enjoy it hahaha. The people behind the counter can be either really friendly and nice or absolutely cold which is a bit weird. Decent priced food. If you want a quick takeaway meal I would recommend.

Never buy fish and chips from Nanking Takeaways they were dreadful. The fish we ordered - blue cod, was dried up and hard and the chips seemed like off-cuts of someone else's order, they were hard and we were unable to bite into them. Worst fish and chips we have ever had in our lifetime. Never again will we go near the place, nor will they be recommended to our friends and family. We felt like going back and dumping the dreadful food back on their counter and demanding our money back. Never again!!

I don't know what you all are going on about, you must of gone on a wrong night or something. We went last night and we were a party of 6, We had a banguet meal, it was all very tasty, and there was plenty of it for everybody. towards the end of the dishes coming out we were heading towards full. Michael was our waiter for the evening and he was very polite, very accommodating, and was always available when we needed him. we were never left dry. The restaurant etc was very clean and tidy. We will definitely be back.

As the person said below, Nanking is beautifully presented but the food is very bland, and very skimpy serving portions. Our waitress was maybe new? and when asked about various dishes simply stated "I don't know" without perhaps asking her manager. I don't understand as their takeaways are lovely.

Nanking Palace is beautifully presented, hospitable, and well-priced. However, the food is pretty mediocre. It might just about suit the appetites of someone looking for a quick Asian fix, but it's likely to disappoint more seasoned lovers of Chinese cuisine, especially natives. The chicken soup was especially bizarre, having the exact same consistency as wallpaper paste. Acceptable, but there are better options in town.

My wife had pre paid for a banquet. When we entered the restaurant to dine the manager seemed uncomfortable to accommodate us, there were only a few other diners. The waitress was polite and courteous and helped us with what we wanted the manager was cold, uninviting and unhelpful. Food was acceptable but not value for money. He also tried to overcharge us for the drinks but based on the behaviour of the manager would not dine there again.

Really nice restaurant option. Food delicious and don't mind it if you want to swap the meat they have listed to another. It did take a little bit of hand waving to get the attention of the staff, but are very accommodating. Only bad thing to note is that I once had takeaways from there, and I think it made me and a flatmate sick... Restaurant definitely the better option.

Went there for a wedding reception recently, the place was at full capacity and still the food was delicious, the service was personal and extremely friendly and the staff managed to keep up with the somewhat enthusiastic drink ordering. An eight course banquet was served and each dish was absolutely fantastic. Special recommendation of the Duck with Plum Sauce, and the Seafood Hotpot.

Went here for my brother's birthday with the family. BYO which was great and the centre of the table spun around so you could get at all the dishes which was fun. The food was very good as well, not just crappy takeaway style.
