Review Taj Mahal - Dunedin

Great place for the price, quality and quantity when you're feeling like something Indian! >> Maharajas They serve rice in large bowls to share so you will never run out of rice! I also appreciate that they have vegan options available. I ordered the vegetable korma and it was delicious, the flavor a lovely blend of spices and creaminess. The only thing is that I asked for Indian hot but it wasn't in the least spicy, which was disappointing! Overall still a great dish. Their naan breads are tasty, not tough at all to bite into. I personally like their garlic naan as I can't stand eating plain bread-like foods. Also ordered their gulab jamun and really enjoyed those! They were soft and squishy, each bite released some of the sweet syrup. It has a spongy texture but when soaked it stays firm and keeps its bounce. I could taste the milk just slightly but not the cheese, and the sugar syrup was a great accompaniment. The syrup was very sweet though, I personally could tolerate it and thought it went well with the balls.

Excellent. Compared with restaurants in ChristChurch i just ate, Taj Mahal has competent price of less than 60%, and you can exchange partial rice with naan if you order 3 mains ( less than $40). Appreciated.

Had a nice lunch here today. Just got a basic butter chicken with naan and rice. Was amazed at how much naan I got and a decent amount of rice also. The butter chicken was very nice and for just $10 it’s astonishing value.

A small and unassuming restaurant which is clearly very popular with local Indian families. The service was a little slow as it was so busy. But we were very pleased with the food- some lovely tastes. Love the food, the pricing is decent, the amount of naan bread and rice at lunch spot on. One of my favorite restaurants with this mix. I would certainly go back there.

This Indian restaurant is outstanding! I've been many times and have never had a dish I didn't love. Easily the best Indian food I have ever eaten in my life, and for such an incredible price! The lunch special offers a curry, naan, and unlimited rice for only $10 and it's always enough to leave me full. Their Wednesday dinner special gives you an even larger portion of curry for $13, also with unlimited rice, but naan is separate. If you happen to be in Dunedin in time to catch the lunch special, you'd be a fool not to.

Dropped in after a long day out with a hunger and was well worthwhile. The starter was so generous that the 4 of us decided to get the main as a take away as we’d never finish it. The meals were delicious and it got a thumbs up from all of us. Staff were efficient and pleasant. Worth another visit.

A very cozy and friendly place with tasty Indian foods; ranging from hot to mild spicy, you will eventually find what your empty stomach wants from you! They are so friendly and so supportive if you decide to hold an event there. Just keep in mind that it's not that big and quiet though.

The Taj is our favorite Indian restaurant for lunches. Excellent lunch pricing, friendly service, generous with the nan bread and rice, so we keep going back! The Palak Paneer (vegetarian) and Butter Chicken are my favorites. Only the toilets around the back of the building let the experience down a little (you have to go out side to what almost feels like a portaloo).

Always had a wonderful experience at The taj mahal , been coming here since it opened! Great service with a friendly smile, and they are serious with their cross-contamination prevention. The only Indian restaurant I go to where I haven't had an allergic reaction. The meals are wonderful and well worth their money too!

This is the Second time I've been here since I'm from Auckland. Taj Mahal has a consistent level of spice which is really cool to be getting what you ask for... eg. Butter chicken Intermediate will actually be semi spiced but not mild.

I love the chicken tikka masala. I always get it extra spicy and they deliver. Good portions. Great place to go with friends. BYO. I went alone one time and the staff was kinda weird about it. Regardless best Indian food I had in Dunedin

This was the only restaurant open on Christmas Day when I was visiting Dunedin with my friends. They took only 20mins to get our order ready considering it was quite busy for 6pm. The food was good and I liked the kadhai paneer the best. I would recommend you to try this place if you want some nice India food at reasonable prices. Highly Recommended.
