Never been here before although it’s been in that place for ages. I loved the food and everything. Will come back again for real authentic Korean bbq
Three things make up a great restaurant 1) great service 2) great food 3) great environment, this hold true to me for all types of restaurants and eateries, and Biwon meets all three in my books and is well deserving of a 5/5 in my books.
Staff - really knows their Korean BBQ, aunty behind the counter is super friendly, you get seated fairly quickly once you in get in and they will set you up with the menu so you can get started on your pickings. Water is self serve here, don't be put off by the fact that there is no water table service, this is very common for Korean BBQ joints.
Food - hands down, the best meat I have had at Korean BBQ in Auckland, their pork belly, OMG, it's to die for. Everything on the menu here is order by plate, I strongly recommend the pork belly, the fat just melts in your mouth and if you cook it long enough, it'll char a bit and has a really nice crunch to it.
Anything beef from this place is also just amazing, if you are looking for a non BBQ dish, I can vouch for the beef tripe soup, it, is, divine!
Your meal comes with all the side condiments which you can refill, and they do use charcoal fire here, very legit, brings up a hugely different flavour to the meat you're cooking.
Environment - this is probably hugely under rated but Biwon has the best eating environment of any cheap eats korean restaurant I've been to (not comparing it to places like HAN). Each table get their own smoke extractors, which is super super helpful for when you don't want to smell like charcoal meat at the end of the night, and the tables are placed in a very spacious manner so you don't feel like you're literally eating next to 5 other different guests.
You can actually hear each other in a conversation without shouting, which I can't say is true for most Korean BBQ places these days.
Strong recommendation in my books, definitely try it out, worth the drive out to Wairau.
Staff here are super friendly. We were seated quickly and being new to the whole Korean BBQ and being novices, she recommended the meats and advised what the salads were we were also served the misi soup made with rice water which we were told is very good for you@.
We chose the marinated beef and pork belly. The marinated beef was tender after we cooked it and the pork rendered down beautifully leaving the rind crispy. She recommended dipping the pork in the salt and then the soy mix.
Food was super filling with a tea station nearby. Very reasonably priced! Great help when they thought we were over cooking the meat. Came and gave us a hand. Happy to go back.
We found this restaurant thanks to a craving for Korean BBQ and Google. We have now been twice and the lady owner is always very friendly and smiling. The only place I know of that uses charcoal for the cooking at the table. All meat is served at your table and cooked by yourself to your liking. I don't usually eat beef as I eat chicken mostly. I tried the beef shortrib and bulgogi and needless to say I couldn't get enough. Maybe it was their seasoning or marinade. Or maybe it was the smokey bbq flavours that you can only get form a charcoal fire. Anyhow After 2 visits down we have found one of our new favourite places to go when we want to have a relaxing and enjoyable dinner. We will be back!
My partner and I had dinner there with our kids. This was our first visit to a Korean restaurant and we found the BBQ menu fantastic, particularly the beef and pork and the side dishes that come with it. The children enjoyed the experience of grilling the meat at the table. An extractor fan is located above each table, which keeps the smoke away. Although it was so busy, the dividers between the tables gave us a sense of privacy. Great value for money. Staff were attentive and friendly despite being a very busy night. It is clearly a popular place and I can definitely understand why. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a great Korean BBQ experience!
Decided to dine here for dinner because we were craving Korean BBQ and I heard this place is good. We were seated quickly so we could get started on demolishing the food! I really enjoyed the wide range of tasty Korean side dishes that accompanied the BBQ - especially appreciated the kind service of the staff when we asked for refills. Marinated beef was definitely my favourite by far! Great selection of both Korean BBQ options and hot food. Staff are attentive, regularly switching out the grill when they noticed that it was starting to burn - was very pleasantly surpised to learn that the owner could speak in Chinese, which made ordering alot easier for us! Definitely will be back for more when I’m craving Korean BBQ!!!
The staff of the.furniture.shop.nearby recommended this shop.I have been here for three.times. Delicious and well marinated beef. I strongly recommend teriyaki chikcken rice. The pre meal dishes are good taste as well.
We gave Biwon a visit after one of my friends raved on and on about this place being the best korean restaurant in Auckland.
Service: 7/10
The waiter was very kind and helped us through the menu. The cashier seemed new since he couldn’t work the cash register and had to ask the owner for help.
Food: 8/10
I ordered bibimbap and it came with side dishes. The potatoes in the side dish were super flavourful and absorbed lot of flavour. All the side dishes had a great taste. The classic bibimbap sauce was quite strong and I didn’t need to add too much. The vegetables tasted super fresh and the portion was quite big.
Ambiance: 8/10
There are dividers to divide each table and create a more private feeling. It’s quite dark inside and quiet so it’s nice for a date or meet up.
A good option for authentic korean food while in the wairau area. Prices aren’t too high and there are a range of options from bbq to stews.
Came to Biwon as I was craving korean food! Ordered bibimbap, marinated squid and beef soup! The soup is perfect for this cold! Bibimbap also was delicious and hot! The marinated squid is pack of flavour but it tastes a little off, not so fresh! Overall good experience for dinner with happy tummy 👍
yummy 👍👍we order bbq pork and beef and beef ribs soup.nice and good service!!! will come back again^^ My daughter like to drink the soup.👍
The service is great, the lady was so friendly and bubbly. A fun experience cooking the meat yourself and choosing your accompaniments to have with your meal. We tried the marinated beef and pork, both were very tasty! Also ordered a fruit flavoured liquor, Green Grape, it was so, so good! Definitely a great date night idea and a good easy location :)
By far my favourite Korean place on the North shore. The food is always fresh and tasty, the staff are so kind and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. I travel here regularly from out West because I love it so much.
Pork gel is so special, the owner is so nice, they free 2 pieces of pork gel. Meat is fresh. Anw i will recommend it for everyone when they come to Auckland
My go to Korean BBQ at the moment. Amazing food and really friendly staff.
Decided to dine here for tonight because we were craving Korean barbecue and I heard about this place through the grapevine. We were seated quickly so we could get started on demolishing the food!! Worked in Sydney for a few years and didn't really come across a Korean BBQ that really satisfied my cravings so I was pleasantly surprised when by chance I encountered Biwon. The chef cooked great tasting food, staff provided fantastic service (including tips on how to cook the meat to perfection) and the night left a memorable experience. I will be back for sure and recommend this to anyone looking for a quality meal.
Extremely cheap price for any meat, but high values, combined with best customer service creating one good restaurant. Owner comes out and talks to the customers, explaining the menu kindly, and how to cook the certain kinds of meat for those who are first time, and even BONUS MEAT! And plus to those who complain about the lettuce, you people are pathetic. Honestly you are expecting all that by only paying for under $25? If any of you have shopped at the vege shop recently, you'd obviously know how bad and expensive they are. Such a snobbish people. Get a life. I have been here few times with my mates, and every single time they were kind to us. If you want the lettuce so much, go and buy them yourself. It is not compulsory on the menu.

Amazing. Service was lovely, meat was delicious - and the head chef is a butcher, bonus! Even brought out a sample of pork cheek for us to try. We had the bbq oprion and it was soo tasty. Walking out of here very satisfied. 5 stars. Thanks for the great service, haven't had such high standards in a while.
