Had burgers from here tonight and scoop crinkle cut chips chips were standard as for burgers a bit on the pricey side but we'll worth it the cheese burger had a good size patty fish burger was crumbled fish and good size I'll definitely be back
I moved to Avalon in 2011, when i first discovered So Fine. They get the basics right, every time. I have tried Fish n chips around Australia and NZ, and yet to find a vendor who is more consistent with the quality of their product. Not the least expensive of shops, but value for money every time.
Went to try So Fine out after reading they won the best chip shop in NZ. Great looking shop but must have struck them on a bad day or bad chip cooker person. The chips were nothing great- inconsistent and not well seasoned. Was disappointed as love hot chips.
Wow, what a fabulous Fish and Chip Shop. My absolute fav F & C shop now. The shop is clean and tidy and in a great location with lots of parking. The service is good, not overly friendly but certainly efficient in person and over the phone.
As for the food, the batter they use is light and tasty, you get a choice of which salt you would like on your food and also asked if you want vinegar. The chips are home made and cooked till crunchy on the outside and soft in the centre. Fish is always fresh and tasty, got a dozen scallops last time and they were also great.
Highly recommend, will be frequenting regularly.

This place has won lots of awards and I can see why. Consistently great fish and chips. Not too greasy, we’ll cooked. Really friendly staff. Surely this is the best fish and chip shop in the Hutt.

They were closing up when I got there but the owner didn't turn me away. Now thats what I call service with a heart. I'm really grateful because I did not prepare a meal for my wife when she finish work. We both work n sometimes you just need a bit of luck. Fast forward 2023 service still the same very good and love the pensioners crumb fish meal deal. Oh and their Pacific jumbo burger. Cooked just the way I enjoyed them. 👍 😋😁
Truly best fish and chips I've ever had. More than flavourful, I didn't feel a little ill the next day like other places, maybe it's the oil or batter but this is a must try.
The only place I miss after moving away from Wellington.
