One less star for atmosphere for lack of seating. Probably made that way to enjoy the view. We arrived there before they opened and people start arriving few minutes before they open. Staff are very lovely and fast! Coffee is not the best but the crayfish and blue cod is superb!!!! Thank you so much!

After two weeks of exploring New Zealand's culinary scene, I finally stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant that catered perfectly to my palate. I had the pleasure of trying two local specialties here: Blue Cod and Crayfish, each prepared to perfection. From the moment the dishes were placed before me, I knew I was in for a treat. The Blue Cod was cooked flawlessly, flaking at the touch of the fork, its delicate flavors enhanced by the accompanying sauce that was both subtle and savory. The Crayfish, a true testament to the freshness of local seafood, was succulent and rich, with a taste that transported me straight to the ocean's edge. What elevated my dining experience was the exceptional service, especially from a staff member named Nicky. Their warmth and patience made me feel right at home, and their recommendations were spot on. The restaurant's ambiance, coupled with Nicky's attentive service, made my meal an unforgettable experience. To anyone looking for authentic Kiwi flavors and hospitable service, this is the place to be. It's not just a meal; it's a culinary journey that I can't recommend highly enough. Thank you for such a delightful dining experience!

Dropped by this cool hideout for lunch while on our way to Dunedin. A lovely fish and chips shop tucked within moeraki village that is only open 3 days a week. We got the half crayfish and blue cod. Batter was nice and light, seafood was super fresh!

Was supposed to surprise my wife with a visit at this very unique place for their Blue Cod and Chips and Crayfish as her birthday late lunch by the beachside on our New Zealand trip. Unfortunately, upon our arrival, we discovered the place was closed with a sign putting up a change of operating hours and the days due to the shortage of manpower. We were disappointed that we arrived at a bad time and we did not get a chance to taste their food. Nevertheless, it was a lovely visit to this beautiful place.

So happy I found this place! I was itching for some good fish and chips and saw it was recommended in an online article for the area I was in. It's very local, nice to be away from tourists. The cod was excellent - light batter and flaky, delicate fish. The crayfish was delicious as well - they suggested it grilled and it hit the spot. It's right on the water with a beautiful view. They are only open Friday through Sunday, so plan accordingly, you will be happy you did!

Amazing blue cod, cray and chips. Portions were big and tasty. Make sure you eat them quickly otherwise they won't be nice cold. Watch out for the gulls.. they might nick your food if you're not attentive.

We did a day trip Drive from Christchurch to specifically try The Fishwife and it was worth the drive! We arrived at 12pm and there were crowds of people down by the wharf where The Fishwife was. Fantastic setting! Our order was 3 Blue Cod, 1 grilled Crayfish, and 1 scoop of chips. This was the freshest, most delicious Blue Cod We have EVER tasted ... who knew it could be this good!? The chips were of a very generous portion and golden crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The Crayfish was perfect. We noted most people had ordered Blue Cod and Crayfish. The Fishwife has an area overlooking the wharf where you can eat. They supply napkins and tomato sauce. We will definitely come again.
