Headed to Morri St for lunch on arrival in Nelson and it did not disappoint- I had the market seafood and it was really yummy, boyfriend had the chicken which he reported was great. Went back for brunch on a public holiday and it was absolutely packed so chose to have a coffee and sweet treat instead. Coffee was great and my ginger gem was delicious.
Yay! Love all the tasty gluten free/wheat free options here! Service was fast, and the cafe had a great ambiance. My buckwheat crepe with fruit salad was good, but the crepe was cold (which makes sense in retrospect, but I prefer warm crepes). Fruit salad was sans-unnecessary melon: winner! Great salmon on the eggs benedict, and try the afghan biscuits if you have a chance. You won't go wrong. Definitely coming back.
There was a whole lot of promise in the lambs fry, all sauced-up with bacon, silver beet and onion. Gorgeous flavours in the sauce, but it was totally let down by being overcooked.

On our drive back to Christchurch we stopped here after many recommendations from travel books. Morrison Street Cafe is a low-key, simply decorated cafe that caters more to the stomach than the eyes. Touted as more of a locals spot, there is a community board on the wall and the artwork on the wall is often for sale. The space can get particularly loud during the morning brunch rush, but the service is still pretty efficient.
We had a trim flat white, an Americano, the eggs Benedict with local bacon and the salted caramel & strawberry pancakes. The eggs benedict was spot on perfection with an incredible light but well-prepared hollandaise to top. The eggs were cooked just right and the bacon had a slight crisp to the edges. The eggs Benedict came heaped with spinach and chives which added a great flavor and added touch of healthiness on top of the soft bagel the Benedict was served on. Needless to say, the plate was licked clean. The pancakes were made with a wholemeal batter and were extremely fluffy. The pancakes were topped with fresh strawberries and a rhubarb compote that was bright, tart and totally complemented the salted caramel sauce that was served in lieu of syrup. If you've never had pancakes with caramel sauce, you must try it here. I had my dish served with yoghurt but cream is also an option.
The prices are reasonable and the service is quick and friendly. If you're stopping in Nelson, you absolutely must find your way over to Morrison Street Cafe.
Wow, this place was heaving on Sunday! Grabbed a table and perused the menu. Lots on offer, but we chose the Nasi Goreng with chicken and Chick Pea cakes for me.... the Nasi Goreng was good, the chick pea cakes were a bit hard but tasty enough. When we asked the waitress what some of the unusual coffees were she couldn't tell us and told us she was "just new" - but made no attempt to go and find out.... I ordered a cupcake but when it came it taste like yesterday's, very dry and I left most of it. The Masala tea was good though. The score reflects the fact that the waitress was clearly not up to speed nor had gumption enough to go and find out for us.

First day in Nelson, we asked our hostess for a good place to get lunch. She recommended Morrison Street Cafe.
It was full when we arrived but managed to get a table within five minutes. The waiters and kitchen staff are busy, giving the place a buzzy ambience.
We ordered light bites: Traditional bruschetta and venison gyozas. We also ordered the mango, raspberry & coconut slice. Drinks: Flat white and a green tea.
Even though they were busy we were seen to promptly and our meal came out quickly.
When ordering my coffee, I was offered a double shot and for it to be made with fresh whole milk delivered daily by a local farmer. I chose to try this. I cannot say I noticed a massive different from 'normal' milk, but the coffee was smooth and strong and I enjoyed it.
The bruschetta was clean and fresh. The gyozas were loaded with flavour. The combination of the venison dumpling, the sharp citrus and ginger soya sauce, the crisp shallots and spring onions was stunning.
The mango, raspberry and coconut slice was moreish. Just looking at it we knew it would be good. Lovely flavours, light and not overly sweet. Delicious.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Each dish was of a high quality. A visit is recommended if you're in Nelson.

Exceptional, attentive, polite, professional service from the moment we walked in the door and consistently maintained throughout the several hours we were there.
One of the best eggs bene I've had and all the other meals looked amazing as well. Definitely going back again soon to try some of the other items.
Nelson is really blessed with some outstanding eateries, and this certainly one of them. It's always busy, but seems to run like a well-oiled machine, and the food is excellent: the Baghdad eggs on flatbread are a fantastic, healthy brunch alternative, and the pancakes are amazing also.
Special mention should be made of the coffee here - I tend to think cafe's in Nelson let themselves down with their coffee, but Morrison Street Cafe are always on the money; great extraction/crema, and really well-made flat whites.

Friendly service, absolutely delicious hot drinks and a totally amazing atmosphere. When you visit Nelson you've got to go to this cafe. You can choose from a wide variety of breakfasts, brunches, lunches and desserts. They serve meals quickly, and the food is yummy. The background music is completely brilliant and the atmosphere is very inviting. However the birds outside are noisy and annoying, but this is the worst thing about the cafe. Overall it's a great cafe we give 4 stars.

They pack some great fashion chain shops into this outdoor mall area. A great selection of Sushi can be found here too.
Had a yummy lunch at Morrisons Cafe. The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait long for it. Not good parking though so best to park in Buxton carpark. The tables are close together so it would be very hard if someone had a pram or a wheelchair to move about. Our waitress was very friendly.,

Such a cool area of shops and cafes. Portmans, just jeans, jjays, Amazon, the rock box, flo and Frankie...more that I'm forgetting. Easy to park nearby and walk to the square.
Good little place to visit when walking through Nelson. Loaded with history and beautiful gardens, very pretty and interesting.
Quite and charming square to visit Mariposa is a must visit.
Love the shops there. All are different. Great to clothes shop. Then a cup of coffee.
Nice to wander round the shops then have coffee at the Cafe.
