My favorite restaurant in New Plymouth. I have been dining there for more than 3 times. Always exceed my expectation and never let me down. Definitely I will be back again.
After visiting Lone Star New Plymouth last night I am very happy to retract my review from 04/02/18 stating "We won't be back". We were pleasantly surprised to experience a vastly improved evening of great service, friendly family atmosphere and very tasty food, our waiter Brad was a star, great work Brad. I am glad to recommend Lone Star New Plymouth and yes "WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK"
Addicted to their Dixie chicken and just love the coleslaw. Large size portions means I tend to ask for the smaller portion offered. It is honest food, presented consistently across their locations so you always know what you are going to get. It was horrifically busy the night we went, ended up squeezed at a half table at the bar where we started with drinks. Appreciated they tried to ensure that we got a meal rather than having to wait until a table in the restaurant area cleared.
Didn't have dessert, but have had the pork ribs on a previous visit which although messy, is finger lickin good!!! Highly recommended.
The waitress was friendly and attentive when if I was in her position I would likely have crowned some folk with my drinks platter. Glad I'm not in hospitality lol.
Great for a family meal - teenagers up would enjoy it.
The price for the size of portions is good value compared to other restaurants - but remember the size is HUGE and I'm not a small eater :-/
Love this place. Cannot fault. The food is a bit pricey but for the quality and quantity it is perfect. Cheers for the awesome food and primo steaks! Great, friendly and smiley staff too. Highly recommend to all.
I've been here several times the kids love this place. While I have always found the food to be good and there is always massive portions. Service is very slow. I appreciated the manager and waiter asking if I enjoyed the meal the first time I went
husband and I went for dinner..was busy and noisy but ok.
was greeted and seated promptly..introduced to our waitress Mel
and she was a gem!...hubby ordered kiwi joker and I ordered prawn star and shared kiwi pav as dessert...meals were big and tasted fantastic...highly recommended!!

Had a very nice meal here, quick service. Had a waitress called Taylor, she was the best waitress I've ever had, and I've eaten in some of Auckland best restaurants.
The food wast fab, the service was very great but unfortunately what killed such a great dinning experience was a woman across from us letting her toddler run round screaming his lungs out and throwing chairs at people walking in! I couldn't believe some of the things I saw.
Alas it was made up by the great waitress that we had, she made us feel really welcome and kept checking in to see how the meal was. Great service Lone Star!
Lone Star's are always consistence with both the presentation of the food and level of service.
This one is no different with a great team on, the night we visited as a large group. For me the Johnny Cash Stash Chicken is the way to go. I never bother up sizing.
Never my first choice, but a good choice.
Recommend to EVERYONE - the meal sizes are huge and the food is always great. Have dined here a number of times and always impressed. Can be a little noisy at times but otherwise good.
The food (lamb) was so good! It was juicy and tender been here everyday for dinner and the service was great! They remebered us after the first night, seated us at our usual table and asked if we would like the same dishes from the night before. I was impressed
The servering of the food took a little bit longer then the usual, taking into consideration the resturant was busy.
The food is pricey but it is definitely worth it.
Would highly recommend this restaurant!
Lone Star New Plymouth, New Zealand. As one of my all time favorite I ordered the Lamb dish & my partner ordered Campfire Burrito (veg). Both the dishes were excellent & delicious. Compliments to the Chefs. We tried cocktails, Mojito & Moscow Mule. Both drinks were a disappointment. Mojito was bland served with stale & spoilt mint leaves whilst the latter drink tasted just plain ice & ginger beer. Upon asking Chengchen at the bar to change drink she arrogantly said she would drink Mojito served like that. We spend so much at Lone Star & this is the service we get. Jacob our waiter was friendly & polite so that was good to see. Would be great to see if staff are trained well on how to mix cocktails & mind you we do know our drinks hence saying.
Very nice restaurant. Ribeye stake was perfect and Pork ribs was littebit hard but taste so good.
Chicken was soft and delicious.Small dessert for children and good! The staff were friendly.
Entire meal was great along with the staff. I would happily reccomend thi place to anyone.
After reading the reviews of a number of places it was clear not to risk anywhere else for a good feed of steak and chips. Staff super friendly and helpful, drinks arrived promptly, and the meal was as expected. Steak as ordered (medium rare), fries crispy. Will be back.
Service was good, staff very friendly. Meals were huge, but worth the $$, they were delicious! Kids first drink & small dessert are free, which is awesome. Our only complaint was it took quite a while for our meals to come out, even though we arrived at 5, when the kitchen opened & there was no one else there for about half hour! Otherwise was great & we will be back!
Food was fantastic , tried the ribs for the first time and wasn't disappointed, beautiful flavors , my wife had the lamb and said it very tender and full of flavor. The staff were brilliant , there when you but not hovering. Been heaps of times and look forward to going again .
We love Lonestar and it is our go to restaurant whenever we travel anywhere. New Plymouth is by far the best one we've been too! The server was very pleasant. We had a small issue and she too care of it swiftly and I was very impressed. The food is the same all over the country however in New Plymouth it's just that little bit better. Well done on keeping up some pretty good standards in the restaurant and yummy food.
Great service indeed. Went there on a very busy night (after the rugby) and had the manager come up and ask if we would be happy to have a table in the bar area, as the wait would be over 30 min if not. We were more than happy to do it, and we had our own waitress, who was dedicated to our table. The food arrived promptly and was superb. A great experience overall.
