Definitely recommend you try Umami. Heard about this place through a friend so thought we would give it a try and were not disappointed. The food tastes fantastic - great portion sizes for sharing our just for yourself. The wait staff are polite and know what they are serving so able to answer questions and advise. The decor is awesome, and the chairs are super comfortable. We'll worth roast visits.
Update 25/1/23: continues to maintain excellent food and service. Butter chicken dumplings delicious and the go to dessert is the chocolate wontons - definitly a recommendation.
Update 25/523: no reason to change stars. Since our first meal here, the did has been consistently good. The menu has changed a bit, maintaining the regional inspiration. The deep cried eggplant, light and deficits with a bit of zing, yellow curry with enough to be shared between two. The other aspect that has been maintained is the staging and decor - staff are great and I love the design, lighting and wooden tiles. And the chairs are still really comfortable.
Love this place & the tempura cauliflower!! A little disappointed that the scallops were no longer on the menu, but the kingfish & prawn were delish! Great place to go as a couple or with a group as the dishes are made to share - my kind of way to dine!
Absolutely amazing food. Flavours are insane and so good getting a bit of everything and sharing it. The beef bulgogi was delicious, the beef wontons, bok choy and chicken kaarage were yummy starters! Good size portions you won't leave hungry! Definitely one of my favourite restaurants I have been to in Tauranga.
The food was FANTASTIC! well made, light and tasty. I walked out feeling comfortably full and very satisfied. Reasonable price and great service with a smile. Highly recommend!
The staff are attentive, your water glass is regularly refilled & the foods is excellent. The food is beautifully presented & tastes as good as it looks. Making it a great experience for both your eyes & your taste buds. We were having such a lovely evening that I forgot to take any photos of the food, so you will just have to come & experience it for yourself.
Excellent service, very tasty food. Cannot fault. Coffee was very nice.
Great selection of modern fusion food. We got a bit carried away, but had plenty of food to take home.
Karage chicken was a bit well done, but the rest of the dishes were cooked to perfection.
Stand out dishes included cauliflower, sashimi, bulgogi, salmon and Pork belly bao.
The print on the menu was very small, so most of us took a photo to enlarge it. See attached.
The service was great and the food was delicious. The food is so well put together and well presented. The flavour combinations are so good my favourite was the Beef tataki and pork bao buns. We left very full and the price for the amount of food we had was pleasantly surprising. Well worth the visit and another gem on our doorstop.
Amazing food, amazing service, great portion sizes and reasonably priced!
One of the best dining experiences I've had in Tauranga, food was quickly prepared, came out hot & fresh, and everything had delicious and well balanced flavours, no dish was overpowered by anything in particular making it a well rounded experience.
Highly recommend the chili caramel pork belly! Who knew pureed cauliflower could be so good!
I truly think this is one of the best fusion restaurants in Tauranga arguably in NZ.
All the plates are well decorated and foods are great. I especially like the Japanese Eggplant.
