My partner and I come here every few weeks and we just love it. I reckon they have the best iced chocolates in Wellington, everything is in proportion. I also really like the cheese and bacon wedges and they always do good eggs. It’s a great, dependable cafe with very reasonable prices and we always enjoy our meal here.
They have fantastic pies, a good selection of brunch food on their menu and a vast array of sweet treats, which are delicious. They do doughnuts on the weekend which always look great and their lamingtons are amazing - the size of your face! I would always recommend Blue Belle’s as a solid brunch option. :)
After a frustrating visit to the hospital with my 91 year old Mum I decided to take her to Island Bay for lunch. I spent my first 22 years in the Bay. We found a park right outside the café. I had the Chicken Satay Salad and would highly recommend it. Mum had the lasagne and ate the lot. Very pleasant staff and prompt service. I will definitely be back.
Eggs bene is the best in Wellington especially with Potato rosti. Rosti stack is just as good. Lots of good food options on menu and in cabinets. Pies are always great and they do flight coffee. Busy times it's hard to find a table but the food is work waiting it out.
I ordered takeaway breakfast over the phone
It was hard to hear as I was walking my dog
I got there within 15 minutes of the phone call and there was a bit of a mix up as they thought I was having my breakfast there
The kind lady with the accent sorted everything out and the breakfast, hot drinks and the berry smoothie were divine
Even though they were busy they still provided top service

Very friendly staff, wonderful food and coffee for a very good price! Would highly recommend to all, one of my top favourites if not my favourite cafe!!
I think blue bell is One of best cafe in wellington. Food is very good and staff is very friendly. I always enjoyed there. I go every weekends.
This is one of our local cafés in Island Bay and my review is an assemblage of multiple visits. The deli style cafe serves Tex-Mex fare, home-made pies and the usual selection of cakes and baked treats. Service can be patchy at busy times but is invariably friendly. Seating outside provides a cooling breeze and access to Island Bay village. A solid performer without being truly memorable.
Blue Belle is our favourite cafe in Island Bay! We dine there often, and the food and service is always good! They make their own pies in a variety of delicious flavours and the cooked breakfasts are amazing. The coffee is always good too! I love the vibe of Blue Belle, its relaxed yet classy, and always bustling which goes to show how popular it is! Keep up the good work guys!
Quit cosy and comfortable vibe especially on a rainy day.Friendly service thank you. The quality of the pies they were turning out was just amazing! Love all sort of different pies they make! It's definitely worth a try.Now I am a frequent consumer. Spinach and chicken. It's just meat vege and juice no rubbish thing put in in order to fill it up!
A reasonable decent cafe with mexican overtones, slightly maritime and lined with coffee sacks. Clean with good furnishings.
Three cabinets of good looking cakes, slices, pies etc. pies baked on the premises and enormous cream filled chocolate and raspberry lamingtons.
Blackboard mexicana - burrito, quesadilla, huevos rancheros.
On this day I simply asked for a cup of tea. I sensed a slightly cold reception at the thought this might be the only thing I ordered, and I wasn't inclined to go further. I specifically went back the following day for a beef and speights pie and coffee.
The tea was t-leaf loose leaf tea, prepared in a Japanese iron pot. A good ratio of tea to water, a cold thick walled cup, wasn't asked about milk. It poured a good colour, had good body, pleasant astringency, good flavour but rapidly became tepid from the cold cup. I gave it 16/30, well behind the likes of Milk Crate (24/30) and on par with floyd's which is just a few doors away from the blue belle.
The blue green tea cups looked filthy, I'm sure they were biologically clean but they looked disgusting - many years of use perhaps. Time for new ones I think.
Coffee is flight, bomber and belle - well made and good coffee.
The takeaway speights pie was superb, rich, moist, great taste and good pastry.
I appreciate that the profit on a single cup of tea isn't large but sometimes it will come to you eventually - just be patient and pleasant.
The Blue Belle had come very highly recommended by somebody who is close to me. And as a self proclaimed pie connoisseur, I booked in a lunch visit.
A lovely little Cafe in the heart of the Island Bay shopping center. Lots of friendly staff, and best of all, incredible food. I ordered the steak and cheese pie and the wife a Bacon and Egg, as per usual! The highlight of the pie is the pastry. Light and flakey, moist and delicious. And then we have the pie filling, the freshest produce and a perfect balance of flavors. We also had 2 flat whites and this was very good and the perfect addition to a cold day. Pop on down for a pie, it'll change your day.
I love this cafe. I've only been twice but I can confidently say it's my favorite and I'll be going out of my way to go much more. Lovely staff, amazing cabinet and kitchen food. I love the decorations inside as well. If I could splash out, I'd purchase all of the amazing wellington landscape oil paintings they have for sale. It's equally upmarket as it feels cozy and small town.
Awesome little cafe with really good food. Indoor and outdoor seating areas to relax and enjoy a chat over a drink. Friendly staff with a good selection of food and drinks
Four of us all had very tasty lunches and good coffee. Staff very pleasant and friendly.
I've been going to Blue Belle Cafe in Island Bay for years. They're famous for their pies, and for good reason. This time, however, I'd just been to the doctor who ordered me to lower my cholesterol - so I ordered avery yummy looking smoked salmon salad instead. I asked for large, which they measure by the size of their takeaway containers. When it arrived, it looked pretty darn small - did I ask for the small size by mistake? It's kinda hard to get the staff's attention in there when it's busy, so I queued up again, and no - I did ask for a large. I'm impressed with the way staff dealt with this. The young female staff member instantly apologised, before even seeing my salad, and then came over to have a look at it. Without hesitation, she said she would put more in it, and returned promptly with a much improved "large" salad. I got the impression they freely spoon the salad into the dish; maybe they could try aiming for more accurate portion sizes by measuring it in future, using the applicable takeaway container? Anyway, thank you Blue Belle Cafe for clearly prioritising my expectations above whatever the "correct" portion size was, as this exchange could have gone oh so wrong. Meanwhile my partner, whom I'd taken to the doctor with me specifically to hear the messages about cholesterol and heart disease, was very happy with his pie, sausage roll and iced coffee topped with marshmallows and cream....

I come here now and then for coffee and snacks, but this morning I had Holly's eggs, which was pretty much eggs Benedict. I had the smoked salmon option with the potato rosties. This was so yummy!
Service was so good, very friendly and chatty, which made a great start to the day with positive vibes.
Lovely coffee shop with delicious-looking pies & pastry. Friendly & fast service from all the staff there.
Lovely service at the Blue Belle Cafe, and the food is delicious.
They make a really good cappuccino with cinnamon sprinkles.
A must for anyone visiting Island Bay.
Highly recommended.
