We had lunch at Mix yesterday and felt like we had stumbled upon a hidden gem! Food was outstanding, service was fabulous and quick and the kids were happy and well behaved (always a good sign!). We had dumplings, bao, roast duck, bang bang chicken and our stand out dish of the day was Green beans and Pork mince. We will be back - thank you!!
Now that AA Gill is dead it seems Peter Calder from the Sunday Herald wants to assume the mantel of the world’s most caustic restaurant critic. But expecting a septic septuagenarian like him to be objective about modern, unpretentiously hip little restaurants like Mix is like expecting Mother Theresa to give a positive review for a Porn movie. Ignore his vitriolic drivel, this is a wonderful little restaurant serving terrific food at great value prices with genuinely friendly smiles thrown in free of charge. If it was my local I would probably be there every week, and thankful that Caustic Calder wouldn't be.
One of my fave canton porks ever! Super tasty, on the more sour/vinegary side (which I love) so if that’s not your thing I’d avoid. So far I haven’t brought myself to order anything else because I love the canton pork so much by my partner liked the bang bang chicken!
BEST ROAST DUCK IN AUCKLAND!
I’ve been coming here all year this year with my family, and I really can’t think of any place that has better roast duck!
I love the food here and the vibe. Parking a little tricky but apart from that it’s pretty much very enjoyable.

Had the prawn dumplings, shumai and softshell crab bao. The prawn dumplings and shumai were fantastic, filling was super flavourful and juicy. The came with a small container of chilli oil and soy sauce which was great although the chilli oil was rather bland. Not a big fan of the sauce slathered on the softshell crab bao as it was quite overpowering. The crab itself was great though and the bao was soft and warm. Definitely interested in trying the other menu items in the future
Loved dining here! Food was amazing and the service was fast. Staff were excellent and friendly. Would highly recommend the Lotus Root Chips and Bang Bang Chicken. Chilli Prawns were really good too but was a tad messy as the prawns weren’t shelled - should have been mentioned on the menu. Didn’t particularly enjoy the Deep Fried Chilli Dumplings as we found it too rich and it actually tasted sweet rather than spicy. All in all a good experience. Would definitely go back!
Visited this restaurant for dinner, and enjoyed many tasty dishes.
Ordered Hargow, Xiao Long Bao, Tofu Bao, Lotus Root Chips, Mixed Veggies in Oyster Sauce.
Couldn’t fault any of the dishes, the dumplings were super juicy and fresh, tofu bao was great as many places cannot do tasty veggie friendly baos. Lotus chips were super crunchy with the right amount of saltiness. Would definitely come back here.
Also, staff were really nice and accommodating! 4.5/5
Dropped in after work - they have a 90 mins dining time but as the service was quick we were happily finished in an hour without feeling rushed.
Recommend the cumin lamb, lotus chips & spring onion roti! The lamb was so good - strips of leg marinated then stir fried. Also tried chilli prawns which was a very generous serve of large prawns in the shell.....messy but good.
Portion size was excellent.
Very nice staff & good service.
Hidden gem! Absolute mind blowing quality of food. Best dumplings in Auckland hands down. Will visit again soon to try everything on their menu.
Food was delicious! Lovely atmosphere and wait staff. Pork slightly over done in my meal, but still definitely gets a 5/5. Food came out incredibly quickly.
Quite interesting place, I really like the Ha Gao, the fried chicken, maybe called Big Bang or something and the Fried dumplings .Great place after all.
I took my family here for an indulgent Asian fusion experience - and all four of us were just in awe at the food. To start off we had a pork bao each (they were extremely filling, tender and crunchy, saucy and tasty) and the shumai dumplings (a good balance of pork with the seafood flavour - my dad loved them). We also ordered the deep fried soft shell crab (crunchy and tangy, a nice texture to have on the table) and the sweet honey lamb (which was coated in a lovely sauce and came with wraps - definitely chewy cuts of lamb though but still yummy). Finally, we also ordered some noodles and a bowl of chicken fried rice. The noodles were extremely flavoursome with a very decent amount of meat, and the rice was light and fragrant. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience. Service was also 10/10 and food came out fast.
