The highlight was the squid ink pasta, it's all I've been thinking about since trying this place for the first time. The beef cheek gnocchi was good but slightly under seasoned and the gnocchi was too soft like potato mash, had no chew or bite to it. The beef cheek was really beautiful. The staff was lovely at the restaurant but no one food checked. I had to cancel an earlier booking because my friend's flight was delayed due to a car accident. I emailed few hours before asking for it to be moved and didn't hear back so I called at 5pm and Sarah was really helpful. Turns out a staff member did move my booking but didn't reply to my email which I think was kind of poor as it doesn't take long to confirm that the booking was rescheduled. Other than that, I can see why Francesca's is highly rated by people and I would go back.
As soon as we opened the door and the air vacuumed through the space the smell was so very inviting. I enjoyed the Duch Rissoto dish with crackling. It was fantastic. Service was on point which was welcoming, as an experienced hospo person I loved this. We also had a person gard of hearing that had no difficulty hearing the conversation. Highly recommend Francesca's.
This restaurant was my husband choice coz he's been kept coming and he always mentioned I would love the place coz I like Italian food...I celebrated my Birthday with our friend and it's simple celebration with important people...I appreciated everything love the ambience...price reasonable and yummy
My fiance and I ate at Francesca's while we were on a cross-country road trip in August. Their pasta was incredible (we had the duck ragu and the lamb shoulder ragu), and the tiramisu was the best we've ever had. While we were eating, we learned that Francesca's sells a cookbook of different recipes they offer on their menu! While we weren't able to buy it at the restaurant, we definitely ordered one off eBay when we got home from our trip. The meal we had was so good, that we wanted to try to recreate it at home.

Wonderful Italian cuisine in the heart of Christchurch. Cosy βbistroβ ambience, with a wood-fired oven for Neapolitan style pizzas. We loved our pastas and the market fish of the day.
So happy that I found this place during our trip for my pasta craving. Both pizza and pasta were really good
It used to be best Italian restaurant in South Island and we used to go there regularly, it even had dedicated vegan menu under previous management. Now itβs an average place with always same never changing menu and almost nothing to chose from if you are vegan. Out of all options pizza is decent as itβs freshly and properly baked in oven. Wine options are quite good too.
Lovely food, more than adequate portions and great service within a cosy atmosphere. Will be back for sure.
