Went there for lunch on Friday afternoon.
Tommy, let me just say, you are one of the best front of house I've had the pleasure of meeting. Your service was attentive, funny, timely and always with a smile.
The food, omg so delicious and filling.
I had the lamb roast while my lunch date enjoyed the fish (Hapuka) n chips.
We sat in the side room off the main bar. This was nice n quiet, very cute with a great view of the river.
I look forward to dining again sometime in the future.
Neat wee spot across from the river. Service was efficient and the prices on food are reasonable. Great place on a summer's afternoon, especially seated outside.
This typical English/Kiwi pub is a well kept Christchurch secret, in a lovely spot down by the River Avon.
Met with friendly front if house staff, great local atmosphere just enough time to drink a coffee and have a chat before the food arrived.
I have to say this was one of the best Sunday Roasts I have had for a very long time.
The lamb was well cooked to perfection and the only reason I was not left wanting more was the portions were more than sufficient.
The potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and seasonal vegs all cooked to perfection and the price point great value for money.
We will be back for another meal without hesitation
Great job guys

Great place to stop have a drink & some hot food.
Great staff always helpful & friendly
Good selection of beers for an afternoon of drinking and watching the cricket. Clean but worn outside covering. Live commentary could be heard in side but being summer outside music was fine. Inside the bar was clean and tidy. Food served was very nice. Steaks done as asked and platters with fresh deep fried selection. Toilets were clean. Friendly staff.
Went for a late Mother's Day dinner and we all loved it! Was a good pub vibe, and there was live folk music as well which we loved. Food and drink were yum! It was my second time here and everyone else's first, and they're all keen to come back again soon! :)
Great food (the blue cod in the pic was some of the best I've had in the South Island) and the team that served us had fantastic personalities. The food did take a little long to come out, but the atmosphere made up for that. Would happily return 👍
Stopped after a Sunday walk around Hagley Park. Recommend you check what time they open, as we just happened to pass by while they were opening up. Had a lovely Chai latte and a bowl of chips. The wonderful friendly staff even filled up a container of water for our dog, Hunter. Definitely stopping in next time we pass by, especially on a sunny Sunday morning. 😀
Staff were helpful and friendly even though they were short staffed, grest job team, I loved the melt in the mouth lamb, the roast vegetables, the yorkshire pudding way to big I couldn't eat it.
It's a pity that online bookings don't get checked before customers arrive. Having said that, we were shown to a quiet upstairs table which was conducive for good conversation while enjoying sumptuous meals.
