Great service!! I went here for the first time tonight and it was amazing! The food took five minutes if that and it was divine ! This was also very cheap, they also had a massive menu with loads to choose from. If you are reading this please give this place a go! I can't wait to come back!
This is a funny wee place tucked away at the end of Riccarton now, but we have been going to Welcome since it was down in Colombo St - and they still have same extensive and delicious vegan menu, full of crazy-sounding meat substitutes. The people who run it are lovely, it's got that authentic feel, and the food is just plain delicious. Easy on the wallet too! One of our family fave restaurants in Christchurch, for sure.
Delicious veg food at an amazing price! Huge servings and a quaint cozy interior. Love this place. We recently moved out of the area and I’m so sad it’s not just around the corner anymore!
They have a large menu here at very decent prices!!! They also have a separate Vegan menu which is fantastic. Food always comes out pretty fast as well.
We had just landed at CHC and were too hungry... checked the app whch suggestes good veg restaurants, hired our vehicle and headed straight to Riccarton ... as read in other reviews, i agree tht the owner who is a Singaporean is really friendly. Great options and all of them really tasty!!
The owner is a very friendly person and he understood exactly what sort of food we were looking for. There are a ton of options at this restaurant so it gets a bit difficult to choose exactly what we want to order. But overall definitely recommended to anyone who wants good vegetarian chinese food.
We are never disappointed, we try lots of different dishes each time. Love the flavours and they are very filling. Our family loves going to Welcome. Very friendly and helpful service. Lots of options as well
I absolutely love this restaurant. The owner Bernard and his staff are very friendly and great to have a chat with. The food is AMAZING. And it's so affordable. I always leave so full it's uncomfortable but I can't waste such tasty food. Not to mention two of us can get a 3 course meal for about $50. I recommend this place to vegetarians and non vegetarians also. I've not yet come across disappointment.
One of my favourite restaurants in Christchurch. Calm and relaxing atmosphere, wonderfully attentive and friendly service, and great food. They have an extensive range of dishes on their menu with something for everyone, whether you are vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. I'm not even a vegetarian but I prefer their dishes to meat ones. The food always arrives very quickly and is beautifully cooked.The owner Bernard is the kind of person you want to go back just to chat with!
Love this place, family run little business that is 95% vegan! All the dishes are really nice! However some better then others. No other restaurant exactly like this in Christchurch so very lucky to have this great spot to eat that. I’ve been dozens of times with the service always been great and food is prepared very fast, definitely recommend a visit.
Could say this is the most yummy Chinese vegetarian restaurants in Christchurch with plenty of dish options. Potion are medium size, you might need more than one dish. Is on the quality food and reflecting it's rate.

Welcome is probably the best culinary surprise in Riccarton. Entirely vegan ! Best asian fusion choice in city. Don’t be put off by average looking outside or even more rusty and seasoned indoors. The food is worth it ! Food is yummy, fresh and delicious and affordable prices. There are so many options to choose from that it will take you months to try everything they. We have been going there regularly for the past few years and it’s our favourite Friday take away spot. Everything is worth a try depending on your taste. Our choice is hot plate eggplant with tofu and tofu mashed balls with veggies - never disappointed. It’s a family run business, owner is very friendly and accommodating. Place is very popular on weekends especially among students due to nearby university campus.
Amazing use of soy to make the mock fish and chicken style dishes. The fried rice was great, and the steaming cast iron dish is a must for the table. The menu is huge . I didn't really like the soups , just not to my taste, probably bit too authentic for me.
First time at Welcome Cafe and absolutely loved the range of food, the friendly service and peaceful atmosphere. Our food was delicious and we thoroughly recommend this cafe. If you want reasonably priced and great food, go there.

This place is definitely a must go for any vegetarian/vegan in Christchurch. The plates are big, amazing quality and flavors, and the service is fast and great! I recommend going with friends and order different plates because their menu is HUGE so there’s heaps of options to try. I am absolutely in love with the coconut rice, I swear I could easily eat a huge bowl on my own. I will definitely return! Also, lots of Gluten free options which is great for those with sensitive stomatch :)
Amazing food, I would say the best Asian food in Christchurch. The meals are fully of veggies and heaps of tofu! I usually avoid Chinese restaurants due to past places being oily and not authentic tasting, I can say I definitely do not avoid Welcome Chinese, fresh, tasty and light! The tofu salad was so good!
I absolutely love this place. It’s my favourite Chinese restaurant in Christchurch. I should have left a review earlier as I’ve been coming here since I was in Uni. It’s really affordable, the food is great - a hidden gem of Christchurch restaurants
