We went over there on occassion of diwali with few friends. The decor was authentic Indian traditional from the heart of rajasthan. Those in nz who love to see it shld be definately be visting once this restuarant. About the food had ordered mushroom tikka for entree. It was a delight because I had a bad experience of having mushroom tikka frm other Indian restaurant. It was so fresh n yummy . Loved it. Naan n malai kofta was prefect. Should try malai kofta if u r a vegetarian n also mushroom tikka. Overall good service with good food.
It was our second visit. First time was hilarious the other customers made us laugh so much. The food and service was just delightful. Loved the décor and atmosphere.second visit was entirely different but also very funny. We got 1 out of 4 dishes right, drinks arrived completely different to what we asked for. The lamb turned into chicken, the naan bread was missing the garlic. the bourbon and coke in a tall glass turned into a beer and bourbon/coke in two tall glasses.....the refill of wine was wanted to be wiped away before I had finished it and returned with a completely different wine.But in saying all that ..... the food we got was good and once again hilarious evening. Small lack of communication between staff and patrons. would we return : YES
What really stood out about Indian Ocean was the atmosphere! The restaurant had beautiful decor and great, lively music. The dining area was well organised so nobody felt like they were talking over anybody else's conversation, despite it being a quiet service night. The food was delicious. I had the malai kofta -- which took quite some time to decide on amongst all the other delicious looking vegetarian options -- and it was one of the best I've had. The samosas were also really nice. Great service too. The staff checked on our table several times to ensure we had everything we needed. I appreciated that the waiter offered to package up our food for takeaway without us having to ask. The location is very nice, right near the sea in Ferrymead. Looking forward to returning and trying their other curries!
We dropped in here because of the GrabOne special they were offering at the time. It's a small restaurant with eyecatching and interesting decor-- including tigers and a disco ball above the counter.
The staff were friendly and making the initial booking for the table was easy and no fuss; this pretty much goes for the service in general. The food was great with plenty of curry options-- there are lots of vegetarian options too, which is particularly nice to see.
The samosas we ordered were crispy and massive, piping hot, and my chicken korma was lovely; just the right amount of coconut. In particular I loved the size and freshness of the naan. Definitely good value and quantity for money.
Indian Ocean is a pleasant wee restaurant I would be happy to visit again, the only thing that would hold me back is its location in Ferrymead.
I ate here with friends last Saturday and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The Naan breads are huge and the curry I had was tasty. Very nice!
Best Indian I have tasted in NZ and the UK!! The food is cooked to perfection, generous portions. Great value for money, lovely atmosphere and I love decor. Excellent and always friendly service, we eat here 2 to 3 times a month. What more can I say than that..........mmmm yum!!
Best Indian ive had in NZ- the sauces were authentic and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere and paintings etc made it a great dine in experience. Same price as you pay for some of these 'franchise' Indian meals in malls but 10 times better!
Delicious food. Very fragrant and obviously made properly. Really weird bathroom fittings - you've gotta see them ;-). Our main mistake was ordering too much - steer clear of the tasting platter if you actually want to eat a main. Such a nice change to have Indian food with a bit of flavour instead of what usually passes for Indian in this town.
Absolutely lovely food, very authentic. The staff were incredibly helpful too. Would highly recommend this to everyone!
Haven’t had Indian Ocean since 2015, after I ordered online I read the newest review and 2 minutes before I placed my order someone posted a bad review and I thought to myself “maybe tonight wasn’t a good night for Indian food” I got home, put my food in a dish, and it was absolutely amazing!! Meat was not dry. And there was lots of sauce which is amazing, because I love dipping naan in sauce!!
I’ll certainly come back. Well worth the $60. 10/10!!! Was just as good as it was back in 2015.
Wonderful to see locally made vegan protein available and well incorporated into the menu. Food was amazing and will be recommending to all family and friends!

Wow just wow.They have this amazing wide variety of Vegan foods.We tried Banana blossom and jackfruit curries for the first time and it was delicious 😋.I recommend everyone to try this restaurant out.🫶Cheers

Definitely the best mango chicken I've ever had in my life and the mango lassie was perfect too. Staff were great and the restuarant has a real authentic feel to it.
