The very short story:
Relax, take it easy - you're in very good hands indeed here.
The longer story:
It was with some delight to recently discover that the award winning "Eaton Drink Co." couple had opened a new eatery! For those not in the know, these are a well respected local company who have won Christchurch Caterer Of The Year in 2016 and 2017.
The eatery has plenty of parking options and is easy and convenient to get to and is modern with a soothing decor. One terrific highlight of the location is that the frontage opens right up and on a day like today (sunny and hot) the indoor/outdoor connection was really really nice. There's outdoor seating too.
Upon entry you get at hint in relation to my "the very short story". I was warmly greeted and assisted by none other than Toby Eaton himself on my visit and while he doesn't know me from the proverbial bar of soap he made me feel like an old friend - showing me the menu, showing me the "cabinet food" and checking in with me. His hosting / customer services skills were examplar presumably being a mix of both hospitality experience and personality.
The menu is very interesting and creative with a range of options. As well as food from the menu there is a range of "cabinet food" we've come to expect.
Upon having my coffee brought to my table and it tasting very good (and enquiring) it was then another sheer delight to discover that the coffee blend was by Unknown Chapter, a local coffee roastery and cafe which is incidentally one of our favourite weekend brunch spots. Now there's a huge tick right there!
My food arrived and as I expected (and was not disappointed) my eyes were first to feast. I chose a lighter option from the menu - a prosciutto salad with blue cheese panna cotta, grilled stone fruit, roquette, hazelnuts and soughdough which was a real triumph of flavours!
In summary, I can only reiterate my opening remarks. Excellent food, exemplar service, great location - yeah, your're in good hands indeed here. Come along and check this place out!
Fantastic food and service, have been for lunch and brunch and can’t wait to go again. Highly recommend
Great place. The food is delicious, very well presented and at a reasonable price. I also really enjoyed the outdoor seating at the back, surrounded by a nice veggie garden. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well. Highly recommended!
What a great a Place. It’s looks fairly new.
Coffee is really good and the meals were beautifully presented and really delicious.
Service was good and meals came out in a timely manner. I would go back for sure.
Potentially in my top 3 brunches ever! The duck hash was amazing. Coupled with a bloody good bloody Mary I'm thoroughly impressed and will be back
I absolutely love this place. I am based in Brisbane, Australia and try make it here everytime I can when I visit Christchurch.
The food is amazing (and I've almost had the whole menu now) and the staff are friendly and attentive.
I've been here solo, for work meetings and even on dates and recommended it every time.
Love it and cannot wait to get to the city version
Went for brunch, awesome food and good atmosphere. Defiantly recommend for lunch or brunch. Staff was attentive and food came quickly
Brilliant wee gem tucked off the main road in Sydenham. Delicious food, great coffee and awesome friendly staff. Very cool vibe for a function!
Super food for vegans and gluten intolerant eaters.
The tastiest mixed leaf salad I've ever eaten in a restaurant in 50 years!
We visited as a goodbye brunch for our family, a group of 7 adults, ages 72 to 25 (a gluten intolerant , two vegans, a veggie, a meat eater, and two gluttons..) and two babes.. 8 and 18 months.
Our gluten intolerant suggested this eatery as he's very difficult to cook for.
He eats there a lot, staff clearly know him and his requirements well, and his meal looked and was great.
Our meat eater was well satisfied, as were the two gluttons (one of which is writing this review). As indicated, I've never had a better salad, ranks with the very best of my own 'straight from the garden' ones with a real eclectic mix of leaves, and flowers, no need for fancy salad dressing here.
Coffee excellent, service timely, and the garden out back, with it's strawberries was a major hit with our 18 month old.
We weren't the only group with children, although the others were babes in arms.
Whilst not packed, it was busy.. booking advisable.
My only regret, we found this place at the end of our stay, otherwise we'd have been regular visitors.
Love this place so much!!! I'll be back to explore your Gins next time
Came here just as they’d opened the doors in the morning (sorry!) but our lovely attendant took it in her stride, making us beautiful coffees and food. Corn fritters were some of the best I’ve had, chipotle Hollandaise a nice twist on the classic. Lovely vibes and can’t wait to return to try more from the menu. Thanks for a lovely breakfast experience!
Great looking menu. I look forward to trying more.
Edit: I went today and had a fantastic lunch with a client. Delicious food, excellent drinks and great table service. It's great that they email receipts as I hate carrying around paper.
