Apart from food coming out slow..all was very tasty.!!👍
Last night 16/4/19 we went for my fathers birthday dinner - there were 17 plus a baby. Two round tables were put together and the staff had no problem in us arranging them and helping to do so. The food was so good we can't wait to go again. I just wanted to say on behalf of our entire family thank you so very much. We will be back! Kindest regards Deb Thompson-Bee
I thought the menu was quite good heaps of selection
Great atmosphere service is quick
Just the price is too expensive
Heaps of parking
Massive tables lots of room
Huge dining area, nice and bright. Food arrived quickly, massive portions and we nearly finished half of it. Staff can be a bit slow. Food was average.
Decent place, large, spacious eating place, has character. The yum cha is really good here but be early, and expect a big crowd all the time, which is good. The varieties in the yum cha are really a lot, and they use a cart to bring food out to you, very courteous waiting staff, quite extraordinary really how they manage it day after day. The dessert is really really strongly recommended, extraordinary for a mainstream Chinese place. The dinner menu is fabulous with one exception: they do not serve lamb on their dinner (in NZ, why? I do not know). The dinner menu is pricey, and the big screen TV is distracting. Highly recommended.
We have been there a few times and its always been good. Its a typical yum cha restaurant. We normally book and we are always early and that has never been an issue. We also have been happy to share a table with other customer's when we have not booked as that is the yum cha way unlike European restaurants. If you cant accept yum cha as it is, stay at McDonalds/KFC.
We had a nice dinner before going back home. A friendly waiter served us and fast respons. Ordered roasted duck and roasted pork, both were really delicious. Probably the best chinese restaurant we've ever had in Christchurch.
As with every time we go to Madam Kwongs, the Yum Cha was excellent! Currently the best available in Christchurch. Just make sure you understand what Yum Cha is before you go here or you might be a bit confused by the experience. Or you could just ask for a table upstairs where you get a normal style menu to choose from. Personally I prefer downstairs where you get the full experience of ordering from the karts that come around.
Went to Christchurch recently to visit family and was brought here for Yum Cha - Dim Sum, basically there ain't much flash or big restaurant in Christchurch due to the earthquake couple years ago, I was prepared not to expect much.
Upon arriving at Madam Kwong's, I was pretty impressed with the decor of this place, it looks classy with dangling shimmering diamond chandeliers and a huge projector screen. Great restaurant to organized Chinese Wedding Dinners.
We were here for Yum Cha, the congee was my favorite, it's smooth texture - yum! The prawn dumplings, siu mai, BBQ pork bun was the usual I always ordered at Yum Cha, they taste good. It's one of those decent looking Chinese restaurant here, it was actually getting pretty packed by 1pm. We went back with a full tummy and doggy bag.
Ambience / Decor: 5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Food / Taste: 3.5/5
Overall: 3.5/5
I came to MK for dinner with a friend not expecting anything amazing, due to the fact it was take away and not spending much money.
How ever their Fried Noodles and Chicken was amazing. It was hot, fresh, tasty and all over fantastic.
I'm going again!
We had tons of dim sum for lunch. Decent food and location. Average $5-6 (NZ) per plate, and they bring out one or two plate at a time. Pay attention to the total number of plates, which I didn't like to track the number of dishes. If you are crafor a Chinese food, this may not be a bad place to try.
It is one of the very few places that open late night on weekdays. I've been there many times and mostly after 11 pm. Nice place for seat long enjoy food and having a great time. Plenty of seats, a wide range of food, but due to my dietary restrictions, I only choose veg & chicken items.
Second day stay in Christchurch, we come here for lunch with family. Authentic Yum Cha food and valuable portions, you can’t beat their taste and price. I also believe meat-lover will love it.
$5-7 per portion is impossible to get in Wellington. I mean “No way!”
Thank you for the excellent food and nice place.
Great food lovely staff love this place great set menu for groups
Good restaurant just almost 5 Star. The foods looks good on the traditional Tom Sum trolley. Maybe is not busy enough some of the pastry seems a bit dry after leaving out for too long. The service is good and staffs are helpful. We also ordered some order to cook dish, seems much better. Overall I think it is a great atmosphere Chinese restaurant, just need some small improvement to make it great again. When this restaurant first open many years ago it was so busy.
I have never had a bad meal and I've been quite a bit! Sometimes, the trolleys are not in use, but ordering from the menu is easy and the food comes just as quick. Vivian is a great host and the staff are friendly. In my opinion, they have the best xiao long bao in town!
One of the best places for Yum Cha in Christchurch. Reasonable price and good service. The place is big so we didn't wait Too long for tables. Location is good. Open hours is perfect.
I had a mixed experience at Madam Kwong. The food was absolutely delicious, and I would definitely order takeout again. The service was okay, but the restrooms were a disappointment. There were no doors, and the cubicle doors slammed against the sink, which was quite inconvenient. Additionally, the massive bar near the toilets felt hazardous. Accidentally ordered too much food as you do! But happily finished it the next day.
I came here with some colleagues on a trip. The amount of food that we got was great! We could barely finish everything. Overall the food quality was really good and the servers spaced out the dishes quite well, so that we were never waiting for something to come out. A good experience!
Very nice food and found everything great. Although serving sizes r big so be careful what and how much u order. We had chicken soup, sizzling Chicken, chicken szechuan (nothing special) blue cod with sauce, prawn Szechuan (very nice) and cashew chicken. Plus vegetarian noodles. Enjoyed thoroughly.
