Thankful to find The Annex tucked away upstairs at Whitcoulls on Lambton Quay on a busy Boxing Day. A fairly cosy place to pass away some time while others are seeking out shopping bargains. The food selection was pleasing and since it wasn’t long after breakfast we only got coffees this time. Nicely done, and comfy chairs, and plenty of books to browse through too - 4/5.
A cafe within a book store. Amazing idea, being a fan of coffee and books, this is a best combination for me. Can relax while reading books.
Cafe has great range of vegetarian options, and coffee is made in the perfect way. I would recommend this cafe. Great place for an meet up.
I've been coming to The Annexe for a while, but usually for coffee or cabinet food to take away.
Overall Todays experience was really good, but there was also room for improvement.
The service was for the most part really good, with it not being an issue to tweak a bunch menu item to suit my dietary requirements. ( I ordered a hashstack w/o bacon).
The hash stack was very different from anything I had enjoyed before. At first I was concerned about the balsamic drizzle and the fresh baby spinach and tomato, but I didn't need to be. It was a really nice mix of textures and flavours. My only gripes were that there was just 1 egg, and the hash browns weren't very crispy.
The Annexe always does great coffee so kudos for that.

Honest they made one of the best coffees that i have ever tasted! the service was sensational, and the food was to die for!! Would definitely recommend and will keep going back for more! Great job Annexe keep it up.
I regularly visit the café - outside 'peak' hours, it is generally quiet and comfortable. Peak times (particularly lunch time) it can become very busy - a testimony to the quality of food and service.Food is good quality, coffee is good. Service is normally very quick and friendly, even at peak times.Recommended.Oh, and agree with the comment about the view over Lambton Quay, especially on a fine day.
Great atmosphere, fantastic service, magnificent coffee and food to die for.Went there on a busy lunch time and the place was full. took a while for the order to be taken as there was a cue but as soon as I sat down the food and drink were there. The staff are very efficient and the quality of the food and drink was exceptional.really loved the atmosphere as well. The view over Lambton quay reminded me of New York and it was great just sitting there enjoying the view.There are a whole heap of magazines to choose from,

When my team and I were looking for somewhere to go for our Christmas lunch I recommended The Annexe There were six of us and we had a fantastic lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meals, drinks and we were able to sit and chat in a relaxed environment. Highly recommend coming here.

THE best atmosphere of any central Wellington cafe. It is the heart of a children's bookstore. Excellent service, you do not get better. Amazing options for food. Excellent coffee and tea. Best staff on the planet. YES! This the central Wellington place to go.
Amazing service. Very high quality food, generous portions, very fresh and tempting. Great range of drinks and amazing smoothies. Coffee is served at the perfect temperature. Fast service and a nice atmosphere. Not noisy and no irritating music so a great place to chat and catch up with others. My new #1 go to place in the CBD.

Friendly service, good variety of food, outstanding coffee and chocolate beverages, and best of all open on New year's Eve!
The only thing we struggled with was the absence of a Tobasco (first cafe we've been to that doesn't have some form of hot sauce) and the presentation of the eggs Benedict was in such a way that made it extremely difficult to cut into and eat with cutlery (the knife wouldn't go through the extra crispy bacon and soggy sourdough bread).
Some additional thought may be required here to improve this from a technical perspective (perhaps just need sharper knifes?) but flavour wise we enjoyed our food very much.

such a brilliant wee place. i work close by and always go on my break - such fast service and always so friendly. today there was an issue with their system (which was absolutely fine) yet they insisted on giving me a free slice. such a small act but truly made a busy day so wonderful. great food, great coffee and beautifully kind people working there - cannot recommend enough!
