Good place for breakfast or brunch. Plenty of options to choose from. I ordered the pikelets with bacon, banana and golden syrup, which was delicious. The banana smoothie was nice but I could hardly taste the banana and got more of the honey. This place is quite busy on a Saturday morning and I can understand why. Good variety, good but not overly great food, and decent prices.
The best of experiences every time. Joe's Sumner is an outstanding venue for breakfast, lunch or casual dinner. The staff are consistently attentive and good humoured. Great food and plenty of it. Brilliant coffee. Thoroughly recommend the place.
Visited Joes Garage for breakfast. Yum, I had French Toast which was 10/10 and my partner had Eggs Benedict which he enjoyed. Would eat there again.
Hubby and my fav restaurant in chch. Amazing food and great service, The Steak is always cooked to perfection and delicious schnitzel and handcut chips. Definatly worth the drive to Sumner for a memoriable meal everytime!!
Good simple off the grill fare, with quality base ingredients and cheerful obliging staff. I pity the way in which each time I eat there you'll always find someone berating the staff for refusing to poach eggs; it's a grill and styled as a diner. The food and coffee is delivered piping hot and swiftly whilst the staff are both patient and attentive. If you're looking for something nice to do on a sunny day a bikeride out to Joes affords both the exercise to burn off the calories from the large portions you'll consume and give the opportunity to stop off at either the Tannery or Twisted Hop on the way back for a beverage.
My partner and I have been to Joe's at Sumner several times now and it's a fantastic place to enjoy a gorgeous Christchurch summers day. We always get the beef and chicken burger and it never fails to satisfy.
The fantastic staff really make this place amazing, they are always pleasant, smiling and just great to deal with.
We will keep coming back :)
Have been here about 3 times now and I love it!! Perfect place for a lazy breakfast in the sun. The staff are friendly and have a great knowledge of the menu. Nice touch having dog bowels in the out door area.
Perfect. Its not very often that both the food and service are excellent but today at Joe's Garage they both were. Great staff, (attentive but not intrusive) and the food was spot on. I had the Clever Trevor (mince on toast) and my partner had the Teddy Best (chicken) and we also enjoyed the pikelets. Yummy to everything. Well done Joe's Garage. Very much appreciated.

I'm a Sumner local and have recently discovered Joe's Garage. Fantastic service and fantastic food. Hubby and I have been there a few times in the last few weeks for breakfast and lunch.
The food is reasonably priced, the staff very friendly and welcoming. The place is both child and pet friendly (which has been great for meeting friends for coffee).
Hubby's favourite is definitely the chicken burger with chips..... the gravy is fantastic. I love both the porridge and the tiger salad (a moroccon chicken salad on rocket - fresh, tasty and healthy).
We will be back :)
Great food! Good portion sizes. The gravy that comes with the fries is absolutely beautiful 🤤 the Hollondaise sauce beautiful! We absolutely loved our meals so thank you 🙏
The service on the day was not ideal, but I've received good communication from management regarding the mishap and I'll be returning to give the place another try!
This is a good little place to eat next to the beach.

We had lunch here whilst staying in Sumner and it did not disappoint. Our burger cravings were well taken care of and staff, service and food were excellent. Highly recommended.

Been here 2x in a week.
First experience wasnt great. Our waitress came across quite rude which made our experience not a great one. Had to ask for cutlery and side plates and the waitress didn't seem very friendly when we asked for these. Dumped the plates infront of one of the guests and walked away.
Came back again today and it was a whole new vibe. Service was fantastic. Super friendly.
Over my last two experiences we ordered a range of things. Burger, pancakes, caesar salad, fried chicken and large chips with gravy. Iced chocolate. Iced coffee. Milkshake. And hot chocolate.
Both times the food were good. Friend chicken serving i felt was a little small for the price you pay. But thats my personal opinion. Tasted delicious tho! The burger was great! Chips and gravy was so delicious, would be ideal to have a larger gravy jug with a large bowl of fries.
Iced drinks were so good. Especially the iced coffee reminded me of starbucks!! And the drizzle of honey was a nice sweet surprise.
Caesar salad is so yum! Chicken was super juicy and it had the right amount of flavour. Pancakes were super fluffy and super tasty!
We will definitely be back.
They never disappoint. Caesar salad with chicken and a side of fries with gravy. I also got a Chocolate big boy shake but I forgot a photo. Always my go to!

Derek at Joes Garage was amazing!!! Can’t recommend his customer service skills more!! He was so friendly from the moment me and my friends walked in the door. Accidentally gave us the wrong drink and let us keep that drink and have us the drink he had mistaken. Such a friendly guy and so welcoming!!! I would come back here again!!! Keep up the amazing service Derek!
