I eat out 2-3 times per week most weeks. The Thistle is possibly Wellington's best kept dining experience secret. The food is fab, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and there's plenty of wine/beer choice. The thing is, you need to be able to get into their little dining room, and not eat out in the main pub area, to enjoy the full experience.
Have been there half a dozen times now and it's never disappointed!
The thistle inn is a amazing place to have functions, (my wedding) from the very beginning and right up until the day they were friendly and helpful. my reception was made incredible by the lovely amazing staff and the wonderful delicious food. I could not recommend a better place, the staff made my day beautiful.
Went there to celebrate my nephew's birthday.... just perfect for the occasion. Excellent food and amazing service (one of the nicest people ever.. she was pleasant and competent). Then the desert! Wow! Definitely will go back again. As a bonus, the birthday boy's dinner was complimentary.
We had booked a room for a private function - staff Christmas Dinner. The actual place is so big that there were a variety of rooms and lots of other groups using the facility. It’s so big that I didn’t even know other groups were there.
So with that in mind and staffing issues they did extremely well in catering for our group.
The room decorated beautifully, well ventilated and the food was delicious.
Booked the Marquee for the work Christmas Do. Jess made it stress free and was very helpful. They also had a booklet of package/platter options which was helpful for planning. The staff were all lovely, great service. Had great feedback from everyone who attended.

Had a great Friday night at the Thistle! Ordered the 2 for 1 October burger special. Outstandingly delicious. Staff were super friendly and accommodating to our picky requests, which were dealt with effortlessly. Highly recommend this awesome historic pub - it's one of our favourites and the food is superb.

We saw a recommendation to visit The Thistle Inn for a meal by our hotel (social media post). We visited on a rainy night on 19 September. We were seated by a friendly waitress in the warm and cosy dining room. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 burger deal - the very tasty chuck and brisket burger. We had a great meal for a great price in this lovely heritage venue. A must do in Wellington.
Historical place, my elderly supervisor could recall memories from his young age! The walls and floors are full of antiques. It gives a nice feeling and adds to the atmosphere. Busy Inn during evening hours. Food was served on time. Presentation was great and food was excellent!
