I think by far the best indian restaurant in the entire city of Wellington! I just heard someone that the chats are good so dropped by to eat and my god.. the food was really tasty! Definitely worth the money and I went all the way from lower hutt so definitely worth all the effort!

The best Indian vegetarian food in Wellington! Any of their paneer dishes are highly recommended. Its not all about the food. The service is amazing too. Once my friend and I got our food to take away. We left and about 5 minutes into our walk back home we realised we were one takeaway container short. We turn around and saw one of the staff running after us waving to get our attention. We had left it on the counter but thank you for the staff for their loyalty and bringing it to us!

Great authentic food and recommendations from the owner were perfect to suit our tastes. Been twice and now one of our favourite spots in Newtown.

Excellent customer service and incredible food. Not too sure what all the negative reviews are about. I found the prices to be very reasonable and had a delightful authentic experience. Oh and try the coconut burfi! Thank you Raj and your wonderful team.

So the service is terrible and the decor is crappy, but the food is authentic and delicious.  Proper Indian street food like Pani Puri and Bhel Puri, and a huge variety of sweets.

Had a delicious chicken jalfrezi, soft chapatis and thick mango lassi. Many options for vegetarian dishes. Reasonably priced. Very basic decor but clean.

A favorite regular place of mine. The chat is delicious and I love the Indian music videos they play. It takes me back to the restaurants in Little India, Singapore. The service is always extremely fast and I often get free jalebi, yum! I believe that the employed woman previously spoken of in reviews is no longer there because the owners are always friendly. Don't expect a westernized version of Indian food - this is the real deal.

I love this place, they do the best Pani Puri and Chat Papri. The Butter chicken and Chicken Madras are pretty decent also. Oh and I love the Samosa's and the Chai Tea.

As I watched the sun go down over the hazy distance of Mumbai's Chowpatty Beach, and lovers stroll arm in arm over the flat sand, I cursed myself for not doing likewise with a Bhel Puri cradled in my hands. For some reason, although it had been my intention, my visit to India was devoid of this extraordinary piece of Indian junk food. It may have been the fear of what a friend described as "Latrine Cuisine" but for whatever reason it didn't happen, and this was the one place on earth that a Bhel Puri should be eaten.

Newtown is not second best, it is much further down the list, but the number of places in Wellington where a Bhel Puri can be eaten is quite small. At lunch time my memory of Mumbai and Chowpatty returned and I set out to see whether a Bhel Puri could be found within walking distance of Newtown's ethnic dining strip.

There were two, one was shut, and its windows were so filthy that it was difficult to to see inside as to whether it was still a restaurant. The other, over the road and down a bit was Indian Sweets & Snacks.

The previous reviews weren't promising. But Zomato tales of a very "rude" "unfriendly", "abusive", "obnoxious" lady behind the counter only served to whet my appetite further. Unfortunately, it seems she may have had a day off.

Inside there is a large array of nice looking Indian sweets in the cooling cabinet and stacked bags of dried snack food on most surfaces. A golden cat with a waving paw beckoned me to the counter but the lone individual in the kitchen who saw me seemed to regard me as one would regard a passing cloud. Fortunately another guy appeared from a back room and I ordered my Bhel Puri and a Mango Lassi. $10.

The service wasn't exactly a floor show, but the chap that served me did become animated and friendly when asked as to the sauce composition of the Pani Puri they had advertised - another fond memory of Mumbai.

The Bhel Puri arrived quickly and the Mango Lassi was already waiting for me with a row of others in the refrigerator cabinet. This is a good combination.

A Bhel Puri is basically a savoury pile of puffed rice with chopped vegetables (potato, onion). The rice gives it a brilliant texture, tamarind chutney and Chat masala give it a citrus tang, and spicy heat. Fried Sev (like a thin noodle) on top adds crunchiness. There are many variants and I've never had two the same. Like many other popular ethnic classics (e.g. peking duck) the combination of multiple flavours and textures make its whole more than the sum of its parts.

The Lassi was delicious and the yoghurt base tempered the spicy heat from the chutney. The puffy pile of texture and flavour was great and the balance  provided by the Lassi was excellent. The Bhel puri also included peanuts.

Apart from the disappointment of not being terrorised by the lady, this little place isn't at all bad. They had trays of hot curries in a warming cabinet, and I saw a couple of people with thalis that looked good. I also noticed on the menu at least half a dozen goat (in India they call it mutton) dishes which is a real plus, also dosa masala.

Would I go back - yes I think I would, and maybe if the joint over the road (and down a bit) cleaned their windows I'd be tempted to try there too. I'd also be tempted to rate Indian Snacks slightly higher than 3.5 but that will await the goat.

If you haven't already had a Bhel Puri, its one to try before you finally pop your clogs.

The food is amazing! The service is okay.. They don't communicate with the customers well or between each other.... I would recommend it but just for a casual night out

Best samosas in town. You can expect good traditional food. Value for money. No frills eatery. Paneer paratha and chat are must try.

Authentic taste. You get all the different aromas blasted in as soon as you enter(not a good thing, could do with better ventilation). A bit pricey but that's Wellington/NZ based. (Paid $50 for 5 Samosas, 1 Kachori, 3 Teas and 1 plate paneer pakora)

Very nice lunch here. Quick service and friendly staff. Food was so good! Tried the Veg Thali for $14 lunch time, and it filled me up with lots of joy. Tried the dessert as well, the hot gulab jamun was really good. The only Indian restaurant that open in Newtown when others closed. Very great experience. Will definitely come back again

Delicious sweets and snacks, I'm less a fan of their curries personally mostly because I'm used to them without bone in meat which they do here (weak I know lol) but their food has always been delicious and the atmosphere is nice. The mango lassi is out of this world delicious too

My go to place for Indian sweets. I think there's about 28 to choose from. I haven't tried them all yet but I'm making good progress and I'm yet to find one I haven't liked. Favorites so far Cham Cham, Lemon Kali, Malai Chop, and Barfi.

If you are missing Indian street food, then this place is a must visit. Friendly staff. The music definitely takes you back in India vibes. Had the pani puri and dahi bhalla, amazing flavours and packed with sweet and sourness. Also tried the Indian sweets at the counter, omg took me back home. Original flavours and taste.
