Heard great reviews about Goku Shabu shabu so I thought I’d try.
Kiddos were hangry so we got them some edamame beans to start, as well as miso soup. I ordered a ramen each for them then got the lobster shabu shabu for two for us. I am not too sure how it works to be honest, because while the lobster is quite big, the accompanying veggies and noodles are too small to be satisfying for two people.
The lobster was ok- lots of meat, however, not as fresh as I had in other places. The shabu shabu came w chicken soup and a yuzu dashi soup, both matched perfectly with our meats and veggies which we loved.
We had to order another side of meat and another side of veggies as well - the eye fillet beef was very nice.
Kiddo’s yuzu duck ramen was delicious, and the big kid seemed to like his miso beef ramen- he ate it too quickly for me to try any!
Service-wise, I felt that they are really short staffed as they were not super attentive. Halfway through our meal they didn’t refill our water and also forgotten our additional order of beef.
I visited this restaurant with my friends, and we decided to take the waitress's recommendations for our meal. The sukiyaki sauces and shabu hot pot we ordered had a wonderfully mellow flavor. The New Zealand Wagyu beef and Sashimi we had were of acceptable quality.
The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere, adding to the overall dining experience. If you're searching for a Japanese restaurant in Queenstown, I would highly recommend this one. While the prices may be on the higher side, they are justifiable when you consider the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience.
This restaurant makes me feel warm in this spring.
The sashimi are very fresh and can feel the chef's care for the ingredients
The servise are the best they patiently explained to me even my English no well.
I recommend the sukiyaki that is so delicious cook with the meat dipping with the raw egg. Do not forget the udon as well.
The shabu shabu broth also refreshing as well but sukiyaki is the first choice for me.
For the price difference people have different views. For me still acceptable and felt worth it in QT.
Overall very good and I will come again with big group then sharing is more cost-effective.
1. Nice Ambience - The restaurant was clean & peaceful with comfy temperature.
2. Great Service and Friendly Staff. - The staff were friendly to our toddler and even entertained him a little. They gave us a nice table as well away from other customers so we can eat and entertain our child without disturbing others.
3. Delicious food - we didnt mind paying a little extra because it was worth it. Will def come back next time we’re in Queenstown
Fantastic dining experience last night! Super friendly staff, delicious food! We were a big group and had a bit of everything and it was just getting better and better. Wagyu beef dumplings absolute must to have, salmon and tuna sashimi 10/10. NZ Rib Eye was delicious. Thank you for having us!
Excellent service and amazing food. We had a great night here. It is a restaurant that I am happy to recommend to my friends. The boss is so kind and nice. Will definitely come back.
The sukiyaki pot is delicious, but the king salmon doesn’t taste as fresh as freshly cut. Overall, it’s pretty good.
Service, food, and ambience is excellent here. If you like more flavour, go for the sukiyaki, if you want something nice and warm during the cold, definitelynthe shabu shabu. Thank you for dishing our good food here in Queenstown!
Good food, prompt friendly service crew and fresh seafood! Set was in good portion and able to feed you. Come during winter season
Delicious and healthy option right in Queenstown. The tempura was delicious, and the Shabu Shabu broths were amazing. If Japanese food is new to you, they’ll help you understand the menu and cooking tips! This was perfect when we were craving something light and veggie based on vacation.
